Not the best episode but it does continue Ishildur's story. And one can never have too much of Maisie Williams.

I had too much Maisie Williams with these two episodes, but otherwise agree, not the best Capaldi episodes

I really enjoy this episode for 12 and Ishildur's conversations and dynamic. This episode also shows how far 12 has come since his early days when he was so callous about human deaths and when he was not very appreciative of companionship. But it's clear now how much he values and champions humans and companionship, and that absolutely has everything to do with Clara, and 12 knows that now. I love the back-hug at the end of the episode. Once upon a time, 12 would have tried to push her off or to slip away, but this time he just lets her hold him. Tells her he missed her, sincerely. It's such a beautiful and understated moment between them. It's so tender and so comforting, that lingering full-body contact. I can't remember seeing something like that between a Doctor and companion before them. Given how "no touchy!" this Doctor has been, it feels even more special and earned. And then, afterwards, he looks at her with that indecipherable expression at the end. All that talk about losing people, about needing someone, you can tell it really got to him. I was really looking forward to your post-episode thoughts a lot for this one and as always you really deliver! Fantastic break down of both Ishildur and 12 as immortals (more or less) and as people. And I love your thoughts about where they stand with each other at the end.

The Doctor said that Clara was taking year 7 for Taekwondo as a means to explain why she was not there. I always felt that this was just another of this Doctor's quips. As he'd just referenced his usual companion not being there and as someone who has been prone to hit him. So Clara could have been teaching a year 7 class martial arts or been a chaperone for an internal or external class. Equally it could just another of this Doctor's playful jibes towards Clara and he was never taking her along on this one. Although he could of turned up and discovered Clara was busy and not bothered to use time travel to pick her up from a later point in her timeline. Or never even considered taking her along on this adventure at all. This just might be one of those side adventures that the Doctor takes without his current travelling companion. I have no idea if it was that Jenna wasn't as available or of they felt that this story would work better if Clara wasn't a major part of it. My guess it's the latter and it was just a joke. Who knows really. 🤣 But I'd love to know if Jenna or Clara are proficient Taekwondo!
