I think the pose for the portrait supports my theory that Godmother and Dad were having an affair before the mother died and now she hates Fleabag so much because she reminds her of the deceased mother and that makes her feel both guilty and oddly threatened. It's kind of amazing that there's a love triangle shaping up and one of the parties involved is God. That really feels like nearly uncharted territory in modern storytelling. I'm not religious but I do come from a very Catholic family, so I try to keep that in mind and have some respect for his relationship to God and the church. It may be something that I can't fully relate to, but that doesn't mean it's not very real for him. I also feel a bit bad for the creepy stepson, because he seems like he may have some kind of unacknowledged social or developmental disorder that no one is acknowledging. If he had proper counseling or treatment his attachment to Claire might be less creepy seeming. I think his desire for her to leave his father may be a very sincere wish to see her no longer unhappy.

I love the hot Priest! The back and forth between him and Fleabag is everything this episode. You’re totally right everything is so much for sharp and refined this season from dialogue to editing and humour. Thanks for the great reaction! :)

I spotted somebody in this one who appears in a later episode of Doctor Who. In quite a big role too. :D
