The Theo storyline is so interesting to me. It really makes you question lots of things about gender and race stereotypes. It definitely opens a bag of worms about why their is a history of women not being believed in these cases and men getting away with it - but then add in the fact that she is a white girl accusing a black boy, in an inner city London school where the majority of staff will be white, but the majority of students will be black, it really is a car crash waiting to happen on every level. I get what you'\re saying about not wanting new characters introduced each week (and it does mostly stop in the second half of the season if I remember rightly), but I get the impression Michaela Coel wanted to discuss all levels of consent for sex. (It's only just occurred to me that in a way the opening storyline with Simon and his girlfriend and the other girl was about a different type of consent. His girlfriend was consenting to his sex with another girl provided she was there - but not just him and her. Maybe I'm reaching a bit there.)

No you’re absolutely correct about the Simon storyline. His gf did give him “permission” to be with another girl as long as she was present. I suspect she was only doing it to please him and wasn’t totally on board with it though. But he definitely cheated and abused the freedom she gave him.
