I won't lie, this episode is when I hated Tyler. He knew all along that he would do this, yet he comes back, lets Caroline believe he's back for good so they can be together again, sleeps with her and then dumps her. That's such a dick move. I don't blame him for being messed up by his mom's death and obsessed with revenge, but I do blame him for leading Caroline on.. for what? So he can get laid one last time by her?

The plot/history is a little confusing so let me clear it up: 2000 years ago, Qetsiyah made an immortality spell along with a cure. Silas betrayed her by taking the immortality elixir with Amara instead, so Qetsiyah retaliated by curing Amara so she could kill her. After killing her, she created the Other Side as a barrier to separate her from Silas, hoping that when he died, he would be stuck there forever separated from Amara. Cut to current events: Silas wants Katherine so he can ingest the cure and be able to die. Before taking the cure, he wants to destroy the other side so that when he dies, there’s nothing separating him from Amara. He needs the anchor to do so. Qetsiyah wants the anchor so she can prevent him from destroying the other side; she doesn’t want him to reunite with Amara. At the end of this ep, Qetsiyah desiccates Silas, but Damon and co make him take the cure so he can die, allowing them to swap him with Bonnie.

Tyler didn't dump her, Caroline did. She was the one who gave him the ultimatum that either he forget that Klaus killed the last remaining member of his family (not to mention all the shit Klaus has pulled, including being the sole reason for every obstacle Tyler and Caroline have had since he entered their lives) or else their relationship is over. To say nothing of the fact that she completely disregarded all the good he was doing by helping out people like him, treating that like something that needs to be forgiven. Tyler's asking for some time. With Klaus still messing with their lives (which is exactly what he's doing — Klaus literally could just waltz back in and ban Tyler from his own town and his own girlfriend yet again simply because he wanted to, and Tyler couldn't do a damn thing about it), he can't put all of himself into the relationship. He can't even get his own head on straight because of what Klaus has done. So he wants time to make Klaus pay for all of that. If Caroline weren't so blinded by her irrational rose-colored glasses about Klaus, she might actually understand that. In fact, she should want to join in! She's within her rights to break it off, but that's HER choice. Tyler is not the one who wanted to end things. He came back to explain exactly what he's been doing, why he couldn't get a hold of her, and what he intends to do. Caroline's his girlfriend, of course he's going to want to be with her the way he hasn't been able to, and she certainly wanted to spend time with him as well. She dealt with Tyler being gone several times (none of which, except with the werewolf pack, was his own doing, mind you) so I'm sure he thought she'd understand this time, too. But she didn't, she gave him the ultimatum, so he did what he had to do. If you want to hate Tyler, that's fine. But don't misrepresent what's happening here.

I'm just glad the Tyler and Caroline thing is over. It started off really strong, I'll never forget Caroline staying by his side during his first full moon. But it became pretty toxic, they brought out the worst in each other.

Hmm I guess they’re never getting back together based on this comment 🤔

It would be great if people could stop spoiling the show.
