This show really gets going after next few episodes!

I found that last speech so beautiful it reminded me of this poem that says " I kneel into a dream where I am good and loved; My hands have made some good mistakes, they can always make better ones" I think that in his twisted mind Klaus had some good intentions there. It was wrong of course. Is just sad. The show went all philosophical there in the debate of evil or unfairness is very Hobbes and Rousseau and their debate if humankind is good by nature and is the society that ruins them or it is evil by nature and is the society the only thing that keeps them in check otherwise we will kill each other to survive. I also think you are totally right at the beginning of the episode Klaus was saying his perspective of the world how people do what is in their best interest and is an unfair world where they don't care who they ruin because that is what happened to them, his own mother and father ruined him because it was in their best interest and he was chased and tormented for years and cursed with becoming a monster so I am not surprised that his view of life is so harsh, but Cami did get to him during the episode she told him that she believed people were good is just that bad things happened to them and I think that is why he said that to her at the end, that there could be a world where people only desire was to be good. That is beautifully sad. Yeah, the difference I think of The Vampire Diaries is that their protagonists are the heroes there and this is more I think a story about villains because The Originals have always been the villains in the supernatural world. I also wonder if all that speech of Klaus at the beginning was just him trying to justify to himself his own existence, a coping mechanism as if their definition of morality had to shift when they became vampires. When you become this creature that has to survive by ultimately sort of cannibalizing others, your morality barometer has to be significantly disproportionate to whatever a human barometer of morality is. The same dilemma that exists with humanity switches a way to survive without being consumed by their humanity and the contradictions of their supernatural nature. I think Klaus was also talking to himself in that scene with Cami he can never erase all the monstrosity that he has done over the years, not by human standards he can only dream of something he lost a long time ago the innocence of being capable of goodness and redemption, I think a human can do evil but the evil they can do is not as a great in magnitude as the evil a vampire can do so if he was someone else if he wasn't what he is he could have a chance of redemption of being able to make good mistakes and I think that for that exact reason these are characters that are beyond redemption they’ve done the most terrible things to each other, to their enemies, to those that loved them. No amount of goodness can take it away. They can never remove the centuries of vile behavior, certainly not by human standards, or at least that is what I think so far. That doesn't mean they can't find their happiness or live a good and just life. Because at the end of the day they are bound to live forever. So they have either to find their peace in that or to give into a true monstrosity that is their nature too. Both of those things exist in them. And I find it very poetic because that is the point of a show like this I think is not about watching humans making human mistakes, this is about monsters and their struggle in a world where they weren't supposed to exist at all. Very Frankenstein.

I love your reactions to The Originals the most. And since you hate Klaus, I can already tell which characters you will like 😄 I'm not the biggest Klaus fan too, and I often disagree with a lot of his decisions. I'm not as hateful towards him as you are, but weirdly The Originals are not even my favourite characters in the show. It's so grey, not black and white at all, even more than in The Vampire diaries. I'm really excited for you to get to season 3. And you have such unic opinions, it just makes the show even more fun to rewatch. Davina is my favourite character in TO.

I think you're going to have to lower your moral standards for this show haha There is no such thing as a good guy in this show

I love that Camille scene at the end and how she asked “what about my brother?”.

otherboy

This show probably shouldn’t have been recommended to me then since my “moral standards” haven’t changed since I started TVD.

“Villains attacking villains” is essentially the plot of this show considering the fact that the Originals are technically antagonists. You’ll just have to get used to that haha. Your thoughts about Klaus are always so interesting to me. I personally have the exact opposite opinion: I find him very charming and complex, and I think he owns every scene he’s in. Nevertheless I enjoy watching you react in a completely different way. I loved the Cami scene as well. It really added more depth to her character and I can honestly see both sides. I agree that she should be allowed to make her own choices, but I also think Klaus is doing her a favour by not letting her be consumed by vengeance. Revenge leads ppl on a downward spiral and can really destroy a person.

otherboy

I’ll always believe that people should be able to make their own decisions. It’s not his place to relieve her of her vengeance especially when all he does is seek vengeance and spiral downwards. Plus she’s just looking for answers for closure at minimum. She wouldn’t be able to exact revenge even if she wanted to in that supernatural world.

What I enjoy about this show is to thing out of the perspective of the bad guys, its something different. I like Klaus as a villian though !

Didan

Elijah wasn't in Davina's head btw lmao

Connie Kay

I know most people like this show even better than TVD but to me TVD is a million times better.

Didi

Honestly, I can't watch TVD with the same enjoyment as before after watching The Originals for the first time recently. TVD is like a teen drama, The Originals have some of the best writing, amazing villains and logical characters. There are so many people who watched TVD, but ignored TO.

Abhi Subedi

He would gain nothing from compelling Cami to move on from the pain. He did that to make her life easier in the way he thinks is good. Of course taking away someone's choice is never a good thing but it wasn't because of any selfish reasons. As for coming to New Orleans, he did that to find out who was conspiring against him. And he can't just leave because Hayley will die if she leaves New Orleans and also he is power hungry and can't see others on top.
