Vikingx is a brilliant show, and well worth you sticking with. It's loosely based on real historical events and people, though they've contracted some things that took place over a couple of centuries into a few decades over the 6 seasons. Many of the main characters were historical figures, like Ragnar himself. The magical/mythical elements are more along the lines of how the characters see the world around them, rather than being "real". It's quite accurate in terms of it's depiction of the cultures and life of the period (a Thing, by the way, is an old Viking term for a public assembly of free people in a country or province, where they would gather to vote on laws and sit in judgement of people charged with crimes - so actually quite democratic for the times . And yes, Travis Fimmel's eyes realy are that blue! He was a model before this, and he's done a few shows and movies since Vikings - probably the best that I've seen is an Australian Vietnam War film called Danger Close. Strongly recommended (he is Australian, by the way).
