I am glad you enjoyed it, so I won't bang on about my dislike for this writer. 😋 But I will mention how strongly I was reminded of x-files.

Tbf I think this episode might be the best thing he has ever produced, although most of his stuff on torchwood is decent at the very least

One thing I like about Torchwood more than Doctor Who is the flaws the characters have. Obviously it's a darker show, but even other scary or depressing type shows I've watched havent had such a wonderfully diverse group of extremely flawed humans. Each of them is at heart a good person, wanting to protect the world, but they all constantly make mistakes and fuck up and it makes them feel more real. Their flaws are constantly at the forefront and they don't overcome then in the span of an episode. There are ongoing character arcs with each character taking a few steps forward amd then a few steps back. Gwens cheating and lying. Owens insensitivity and callousness. Jacks secretness that leads to ppl being put in danger. Toshs withholding demeanor and questionable past (if you caught her line about breaking out of cells before). Ianto has a lot of flaws to but hes my fave so every time i think of him i just wanna give him a hug. Anyway this comment was an excuse to ramble on about torchwood. Some of the best character arcs in the entire scifi genre, imo.

I love this episode so so much. Also im sure you realize this already, but try not to get influenced by the commenta too much when it comes to writers. People have mixed feelings on chibnall as a writer, but im really glad you liked this episodes of his. Id recommend paying attention to the wroters of each episode of torchwood amd doctor who. Youll notice patterns in themes and motifs, and reoccuring monsters and characters. Its interesting to see how different people interpret and prioritize the characters on both shows
