Bernard Cribbens, who plays Wilfred, is just wonderful every time he's on screen. As a young actor he actually played the role of a companion in a Doctor Who movie in 1966. He's got great comic timing but also emotional depth. As for Donna's dad, it was mentioned in episode 1 that he had passed away not long ago - just a passing reference, and easy to miss. They had to write this in last minute as the actor who played him in The Runaway Bride was himself dying of cancer and so couldn't come back to the show as intended. And the Sontarans are a classic villain from the 1970s, 3rd and 4th Doctor eras. Great reaction, as always. You stay safe and well. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

It's a blink and you miss it line, but the Sontarans were using the earth as a cloning base because they mentioned their own planet was lost. So the gas would kill all the humans, amd then the Sontarans could use that new atomosphere to set up a huge factory for making more clones of their own species. Like the Daleks, the Sontarans pretty much exist to fight and win wars

Other Boy. If you can, skip to 10 minutes into your reaction, including your intro (unedited patreon) , to the part where the Doctor creates a visual link with the Sontarans, you missed something visual that was very quick, and important :)

Sylvia is widowed in the show (the actor who played Donna's dad in The Runaway Bride died in real life so they had to kill the character off too and that's why they brought in Wilf). You are so right: any scenes between Wilf and Donna are absolutely beautiful, they both perform them incredibly. I'm glad you enjoy them. I'm absolutely convinced the 2nd half of Season 4 is going to be your favourite part of Doctor Who, possibly ever. I guess we'll see...!

Hope you get well soon Other Boy. I agree, Donna and Wilf bring so much heart to the show. Wilf is such a beautiful character that it is hard not to shed a tear whenever he appears. He his played by Bernard Cribbins who is a veteran actor on British TV and has done a lot of children’s TV in his career, I grew up in the 1970’s and he was a mainstay of my childhood, this adds another layer of emotion to the character of Wilf for many people my age. I’m not sure what the US equivalent would be. Imagine if Wilf was played by Mr. Rodgers, then you would have some idea of how much this actor means to several generations in the UK. Thanks for the double upload. Awesome. Get well soon.

He wouldn't be much of a Doctor if he went round shooting people - Plus i think his dislike for guns, salutes and all things soldier-like is a call back to his time in the Time War, the darkest time in his life but one he had to fight in. Now he's survived it he's trying to go back to his old ways of solving problems by being smart instead, hence why he had to give them at choice to leave as he was desperate to not have to blow them up.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode... like I said for me, it's in the bottom 3 episodes of the season, so the fact you enjoyed this bodes very well...!

I guess, but he’s met Sontarans before so he should’ve known that they would rather die than surrender. He gave them so many chances. I guess he also probably wasn’t anxious to blow himself up too in the process😂

Bernard Cribbins is absolute gem. Catherine Tate does a fabulous job at bringing something fresh to the Doctor Companion dynamic. I'm not a fan of this story, but it's the characters and the performances that elevate this two parter for me. Lots of great moments but a real stand out is the series 1 call back for me. I expected you'd catch it, so please you did.

Big Finish (audio Dr Who stories) really should do a 'Wilf and Donna' series, based on your idea of the two of them having little adventure mysteries together. I would absolutely pay good money for that! Very early on in the Classic series (the third story of the First Doctor) there was a story where the TARDIS behaves very oddly, and it's discovered that it's trying to warn the Doctor of a fault, and protect him at the same time. So,the idea of the TARDIS being a protective and sentient machine is very real.

I'm glad you enjoyed this part more than the last part. I really like the global scale of this episode regarding the Co2 emissions issue. Those news reports feel very eery now especially with the issue that we're experiencing now. Hope you feel better soon. I'm glad you caught the Series 1 reference and I'm so happy that you're loving the emotional impact that Donna and Wilf are bringing to this show. She really stepped up in this part. It feels realistic for her to be scared when facing an alien that could easily kill her. Ross was a good character too. Ryan redeemed himself in the end too. I knew you'd be happy with the Tardis bringing Martha with them. :D
