Yeah. This is definitely the best episode of Series 14 (Season 1) so far. Very captivating, very eerie, a good unsettling atmosphere and quite hard-hitting near the end. This is the first Doctor-lite story that we've had in years. I don't think we've had a proper one since Turn Left. But yeah, Ncuti was filming Season 4 of Sex Education during this time and it was an early block episode. But just like Blink and Turn Left, it worked in their favour and managed to be a very compelling episode. Like wow. I'm still amazed by it. It already started off strong by immediately removing The Doctor and having Ruby needing to figure things out by herself with the mystery of the woman following her from a distance. The pub scenes had a great amount of creep, tense and cryptic vibes within them. It gave me vibes of Torchwood's Countrycide episode from Season 1 and I'm pretty sure the pub lady that served Ruby is played by the same actress who played the woman cannibal from that same Torchwood episode. The fact that they were all pranking Ruby was hilarious but it still managed to be creepy with the way they did it. Very solid scenes there. But the episode went in a completely different direction that I didn't expect when Ruby went back home. It was nice to see Carla and Cherry again but oh my god! To have Carla and Kate turn their back on Ruby immediately after they encountered her future self actually had me shook! The way her mother locked her out of the house and Kate's face when she shunned her made my jaw drop. The creepiness of this actually reminds me of 2 episodes from The Sarah Jane Adventures (that you haven't seen yet which were also equally as compelling as this) but it felt so shocking to see them all shut Ruby out like that. Kate's face when she completely ditched Ruby was so cold. Then the final act with the politics shift reminded me of a mix of Turn Left from Series 4 of Doctor Who with Donna and her family and also the Years and Years show (another series created by RTD) which had similar vibes to this. The way Ruby managed to take down the Mad Jack prime minister politician was very effective as was the hint of mistreatment he had towards the woman. But I also felt sad for Ruby as she seemed defeated before finding out about Jack and that bit sweet of victory relief in defeating him only for her to still feel trapped and abandoned even after saving the world. It really did feel like a nightmare manifested into reality. Also that scene with her on the edge of death and seeing her figure in her last minutes only to revert back to the beginning scene and prevent current Ruby from telling The Doctor to not step on the circle. Oooh! That was so good! That had me on EDGE! I don't know if we'll get further answers about this in future episodes but I kinda like the ambiguity of not knowing what Future Ruby said to make everyone scared of current Ruby. I'm still curious about that too but I also like not knowing what she said. And hats off to Millie Gibson. Her acting was great in this episode. For the first episode she ever filmed for Doctor at 18 years old, she gave a really good performance and this showcases the great potential that Ruby can have as a character. Definitely her best episode so far. Nice cameo from Miss Flood and also the old woman again who appeared as a hiker this time. I don't think I'd put this above Midnight but it's definitely close and up there alongside Midnight. Both are brilliant. Likewise with episodes like Water of Mars and Turn Left. This is why I'm glad RTD is back. Despite his issues, he's clearly the best when he's at the helm of the show and I agree that the show definitely took a hit down in quality when he left in 2010. Not to say they weren't any good episodes after but it just wasn't the same once he left. He doesn't always get it right but when his material clicks, it just ends up hitting brilliantly! I haven't felt this compelled with Doctor Who in a long time and it feels so good to be completely sucked into an atmospheric and compelling episode like this. I now understand why the early reviews were very positive for this story. I am seeing a bit of divide with this story when it comes to the fandom online but that's to be expected. With a show like Doctor Who, you're bound to get a mixture of episodes like Space Babies and this which will divide people. But given that the current episodes are much shorter nowadays, I'd definitely love to have more episodes like this while at the same time, also getting some other fun and grounded ones like the ones we got in past RTD seasons. But yeah, this is definitely my favourite episode of the new season so far and when you can have a episode like this without featuring much of The Doctor then that's a really good sign of a solid story, in similar fashion to episodes like Blink and Turn Left. This episode is definitely gonna sit with me for a long while too. Just wow! I'm excited to see other people react to it now. This is definitely my type of Doctor Who content too. I love episodes like this! Rewatching it from your eyes is making me appreciate it even more.

Just wanted to say how much I loved your reaction to this episode; 73 Yards is one of my favourite episodes of the show and I'm really happy to see it resonated as emotionally with you as it did for me on first watch (and every subsequent rewatch).. huge props to Murray Gold's work on the score too - despite working on the show for as long as the modern era has spanned (besides Jodie's era, but props to the composer Segun Akinola for doing his best with that period) it's really nice to hear such creative and haunting music still come from him. The score when Old Ruby is talking to the dead TARDIS is very similar to the film 'A Monster Calls', one of my personal favourite film soundtracks, so you can imagine how that scene hit me!
