Lucas and Peyton. Honestly, I really shipped them early season 1. I still do, every time I rewatch the first episodes, I ship those versions of them. The boy that stands up for himself in front of his asshole brother and horrible father, who has always noticed this girl that acts so mean around him. And the girl that finally breaks up with the boyfriend who makes her unhappy, and sees this boy she's been a bitch to honestly likes her. So much potential, I would have watched episodes and episodes of slow burn with Peyton starting to trust him and Lucas starting to understand her beyond the image she puts out there for everyone. Then came the love triangle... The triangle drastically changed the dynamic between them. Suddenly they were supposed to be close friends (despite that not feeling earned at that point in season 1) just so they could be near each other all the time and secretly fight and resist their feelings. A completely shifted dynamic I couldn't get into. The Peyton from early season one would have been put off from Lucas dating Brooke, not decide to be friends with him. Lucas from early season one would have never dated Brooke in the first place. I know a lot of people who ship Lucas and Peyton say that the show started with them, and they were always supposed to get together. But both of them changed so much from season 1 to season 4. They are not the same people anymore, the chemistry is very different from what they initially had, it feels like the characters outgrew the relationship before the relationship even began. They've been written so platonically for so many episodes in season 2, in season 3, even Lucas's behaviour in season 4 felt more platonic. So I find it difficult to ship them this season. Although I get why some people would, especially those who prefer friends to lovers over opposites attract.
