Alright, the voting will still proceed for a few more days, but it's looking like Swamp Castle is going to win, so I started putting some things together. I based this design off an actual RL castle built in a swamp and really liked the layout.

The castle will have [2] entrances, serving as a road between the swamplands, greatly decreasing the amount of time it would take any reasonable sized party, especially with mounts and/or wagons, to get through the area. This will be a very easy way to force the players to need to go through the castle and deal with its lord and/or denizens.

That said, the interior is largely open right now and I'm open to your suggestions for what you might like to see represented for your own needs.

I currently have a stables, blacksmith and either jail and/or kennel in the inner yard, and I have some ideas for the other chambers, but reply with any suggestions you have for things you'd like to see within the castle, and I will do my best to integrate them, as long as they work with the generic castle motif.

Best,

Jeff @ Morvold

Everybody needs to eat and poo... :-P So def a kitchen, pantry, small dining area A large throne/court area for more formal banquets, court proceedings, petitions, etc. This room would serve several purposes. larger yet still utilitarian bed chambers for the Castellan, as well as Man-of-Arms A study / library near the Castellan's chamber relaxation area / bar / lounge / entertainment trophy room staff quarters soldier barracks exercising / fighting room near barracks armory near smithy and aforementioned barracks area for goats / sheep / chickens (hen house, etc.) granary access to the castle's cistern (since it's a swamp, the water table is high so they would definitely have a cistern somewhere)

A druid Grove feels appropriate in the courtyard, maybe as a variation. Not an inherent feature but when it was abandoned and later reclaimed by some circle of druids they converted it into a grove.
