I'm happy to release my first phased battlemap - Flash Flood!

The download URL for the map files can be found in a following "Tier  Rewards" post specific to your tier, or on the Pinned post on the front page of the Patreon.

This battlemap depicts a dry river bed within the desert, surrounded by red stone cliffs, a labyrinth of fallen rock and the tracks of wagons and creatures that have recently made their way through the area.

As with the other large-scale maps, I've included several features:

1. Different levels of elevation.

2. Multiple sources of cover.

3. Multiple entry/exit points for the party.

4. Points of interest that can lead to additional maps, such as the narrow pass to the SW, holes hidden amidst the rocks and a cave mouth at the base of the NE cliffs.

It could be used to depict travel through the region, represent an approach to a creature's lair, or a cultist's hideout, or the last known location of a shipment gone missing. Lots of possibilities and TONS of space for the party to grab some cover, plan their tactics and use all of the tools at their disposal.

What is a "Phased Battlemap"?

So, a phased battlemap is a sequence of map that each contain some slight change (i.e. encroaching mists, crumbling floor, opening portal, etc...) over a series of time. The players generally have to deal with each "phase" in a short amount of time, as well as the consequences.

This battlemap [5] different "states".

1. Dry River Bed (River is empty)

2. Flash Flood Approaches

3. Flash Flood Stage 2

4. Flash Flood Stage 3

5 Desert River Bed (River is full)

Phases 1-4 consist of a quickly approaching flash flood washing along the dry riverbed, threatening to sweep up anything that stands in its way.

You can also skip the phased nature of the battlemap and simply use State 5, if you'd like to have a static river as a feature of the map, giving you a lot of options with this particular map pack.

I created an Animation (above) to show the general progression of water across the [5] stages of the map.

I hope you guys can create some interesting scenarios, and I'd LOVE to hear about them on Discord!

Hope you enjoy the map!

So, how does one use the different phases? I have heard of them, but haven't seen how they are set up. Do you have to transfer them to a new scene with each time stamp?

In FoundryVTT, you can use the Scene Phase mod (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syIFV7NUfwU), and in Roll20, there are a few options, but I believe you would load all of the maps into a Layer, in order, and then just click the current map and "Send to Back" as you cycle through the phases.
