The new D&D Dungeon Master's Guide (2024) was recently released, and it included a section detailing Bastions, a way for players to acquire land, clear it and build the manor, castle or headquarters of their dreams.

To download the Map Pack, please click on your Tier link below and the download URL will be listed there in map release order. These tiles have been added to the previous Seatower of Balduran links, so just downloading the previous links will show all of the files for this location now.

This Map Pack is not D&D-specific, and neither is the notion of players owning their own property and designing a manor, keep or estate which they can call home during their many adventures.

How does it work?

This Bastion Pack 1 includes [3] different maps that contain both cleared out structures in their original locations (i.e. hillside, woods and mountains), as well as PNG tile versions of each of the buildings that you can place on any map you wish, should you have a different location in mind for their headquarters.

Which structures are included?

The [3] Bastions included in this pack are:

Wooded Castle - This is a clean and repaired version of Cragmaw Castle from the Lost Mine of Phandelver, a very popular destination and location assumed by PC's after it has been cleared out of creatures and repaired. It could also simply be the castle designed by your players in a new spot. The castle includes both a Tree Cover and Cleared version of the map, so that your players can role-play finding/selection a location and seeing progress made before building begins.

Mountain Castle - This is a clean and repaired version of Icespire Hold from the Dragon of Icespire Peak, another common destination and location assumed by PC's as a headquarters after taking control. It is located in the mountains, but because there are PNG tiles of the two castle floors, you can place the castle on any map you wish.

Hilltop Manor - This is a clean version of a hilltop manor that some may recognize as my version of a Restored Tresendar Manor, though it could represent any manor in your homebrew world. Again, a PNG tile of just the structure exists to place on any map you want.

What other Packs will there be?

This initial pack is just to get some options into your hands of clean maps that can be used and decorated by you and your players for their headquarters, role-playing finding the land, clearing the land, building the structure and then populating it with furniture they want.

Future Packs will include additional options, as well as a series of pre-created PNG tiles for the various rooms, allowing you to decorate your headquarters, as desired, but selecting the appropriate tiles and placing them on the map. This will allow your players to select a space in the building and then choose what to build there (i.e. a castle room might hold a library, alchemy lab or sparring chamber, for example).

I hope you enjoy the idea and the maps for you and your players!

If you have any suggestions for other locations or structures you would like to see created, just let me know in the comments!

This is brilliant, thank you! Not only have my party just completed P&B ch4 (opening up the castle and manor for potential bastion options) but the cleanliness to these designs just makes having a ready to start bastion for future ideas all the more easier!

Awesome work mate, can't wait to use this as a base for my players

These are great. Other suggestions might be a tavern (like trollskull tavern in WDDH, a dungeon bastion, a mage tower, and the haunted house from Ghost of Saltmarsh which is kinda ideal for this purpose IMO
