The village surrounds a large lake, which provides fresh water, occasional fish and a beautiful backdrop for their day-to-day lives. Birds of paradise of every color and species perch upon the mossy boulders and fallen trees, adding their voices to the chorus of trills and calls echoing in the morning hours.

Home to a small tribe of hunters known as the Dula, the village also contains a variety of merchants, travelers and a prominent Adventurer’s Guild known as the Guardians of Antiquity, who pride themselves on research, exploration and recovery of important artifacts.

Among a variety of warehouses, shops and the homes of prominent merchants, the village hosts a central tavern known as the Blue Crab Inn, named so for a massive blue crab that sits above its front door holding the sign. Rumors abound as to the origins of the crab, but the barkeep swears it was wrestled out of the sea by a heroic sea captain that stopped by his establishment one stormy night.

DULA TRIBE

The Dula are a human tribe of hunter-gatherers that had settled upon the island many generations ago. The tribe can be found in many locations across the island, but the members located here remain because of the relatively peaceful locale and the opportunity provided by the businesses that find the island resources attractive.

The tribe is paid a commission by the Adventurer’s Guild for the right to explore and hunt their lands, and are frequently hired on as guides for expeditions.

GUARDIANS OF ANTIQUITY

This Adventurer’s Guild has offices in many cities across the Known World, and its members have a reputation for being mercenary and borderline criminal.

While they have found an equilibrium with the Dula tribe, one can rest assured that they’re exploiting that relationship at every turn for profit. The Guardians are mostly treasure hunters, seeking lost relics of the past age to sell to collectors back in civilized parts of the world where such objects can fetch enormous rewards for wealthy individuals seeking to live vicariously through the adventures of the guild.

BLUE CRAB INN | TAVERN

The Blue Crab Inn is the only tavern (or Inn) on this part of the island, and serves as the main gathering spot for the locals of the village.

The tavern was named after a massive Blue Crab that sits upon a shingled awning holding the tavern’s sign. It is easily visible and called Ho’kah by the Dula, which translates loosely to “Great Claw”. The tribesmen will sometimes leave offerings to the crab at the door of the establishment in the form of palm fronds piled with raw fish or colorful shells.

The proprietor of the tavern is a Fire Genasi named Sukra Char, who came to the island to escape a debt to a powerful demon and hoped living in relative obscurity a world away would keep him safe.
While Sukra’s natural charm easily won over the other merchants and traders located in the village, the Dula believed him to be Moa’tanna, a Child of the Volcano and are always careful not to displease or anger him, lest his wrath cause the volcano located on the western side of the island to erupt.

I hope you enjoy the location and the possibilities! =)
