5. Cook for someone you care (Patreon)

Hello guys! How are you? How’s your Friday going so far?

Oh god nerds, I know it’s a total cliché to start a conversation talking about the weather, but OH LORD the weather in London has been beautiful. Sunny days, cherry blossoms here and there, people happy. I hope it lasts. It won’t, of course, because I know we’ll get a couple of awful weeks before spring sets its wings. But for now, for this little space in time, I’m enjoying sun like there’s no tomorrow. 

How’s been March treating you?

I don’t remember when exactly nerds, but a couple of weeks ago I started running, and I love it. I’ve had an on-off relationship with running for several years, and I stopped running when Ed and I moved to Berlin. I didn’t have the time, I didn’t have the shoes nor training gear. But then I started feeling guilty: I spend all day sitting down in front of my computer, and maybe, MAYBE I’ll go out to the supermarket every once in a while. And then I heard the quote that changed everything: they say the worst part of running is putting your shoes on and closing the front door behind you. Once that’s done, the running part is the easiest part. 

Hola neerds! Cómo están? Cómo ha estado este viernes hasta ahora?

Oh dios nerds, yo sé que es un mega cliché empezar una conversación y hablar de clima, PERO POR DIOS el clima de Londres ha estado hermoso. Días soleados, árboles de cerezo aquí y allá, gente feliz. Espero que dure. No durará, por supuesto, porque yo sé que tendremos un par de semanas horribles antes de que la primavera abra sus alas. Pero por ahora, por este pequeño momento en el tiempo, estoy disfrutando del sol como si no hubiese un mañana.

Cómo los está tratando Marzo?

No sé cuándo exactamente nerds, pero hace un par de semanas atrás decidí empezar a correr y lo amo. Correr y yo hemos tenido una relación inestable durante muchos años, y paré definitivamente de correr cuando Ed y yo nos mudamos a Berlín. No tenía el tiempo, no tenía zapatillas o ropa de deporte. Pero después me empecé a sentir culpable: paso todo el día sentada frente al computador, y quizás, QUIZAS iré al supermercado de vez en cuando. Y es así cuando escuché la cita que lo cambió todo: dicen que la parte más difícil de salir a trotar es ponerse los zapatos y cerrar la puerta detrás de ti. Una vez que eso está listo, el resto es pan comido.

THIS WEEK I’VE LEARNED

Last week my good friend Marion came to visit me and I decided to cook something for her. I knew she had a very long and tiring day at work (plus she then spent almost one hour commuting to get to my flat), so I baked bread and I cooked her risotto with steam apples and onions. Oh my sweet nerds: there’s nothing more beautiful than cooking for someone you love/care/like. There’s something about cooking for someone that feels so medicinal and comforting. Like when you cook you’re taking care of someone. Last week I’ve learned: take the time and cook for someone you care.

La semana pasada, mi buena amiga Marion vino de visita y decidí cocinarle algo. Yo sabía que ella venía de un día agotador y largo en el trabajo (además de pasar 1 hora en el transporte público sólo para venir a verme), así que horneé pan y le cociné risotto con cebolla y manzanas al vapor. Oh mis dulces nerds: no hay nada más hermoso que cocinar para alguien que quieres/estimas/amas. Hay algo con el hecho de cocinar para alguien que se siente tan medicinal y reconfortante. Como que cuando cocinas algo estás cuidando de alguien. Eso aprendí la semana pasada: tomarse el tiempo de cocinar para alguien que quieres.

RIGHT NOW I’M ENJOYING

This week Ed and I started watching Mr. Robot. I accidentally clicked the button on Amazon Prime free trial, so for 20 more days I’ll watch all the things that are not available on Netflix. So far, so good! 

I’m still hooked with Erased and Madmen, and (I can’t believe I’m about to say this) I’m about to be up to date with Gilmore Guys podcast at last. It only took me 6 months!

Esta semana Ed y yo empezamos a ver Mr. Robot. Accidentalmente hice click en el botón de un mes de prueba gratis para Amazon Prime, así que por 20 días más veré todas las cosas que no están disponibles en Netflix. Hasta ahora va todo bien!

Estoy aun enganchada con Erased y Madmen, y (no puedo creer que diré esto) estoy a punto de estar al día con el podcast Gilmore Guys. Sólo me tomó 6 meses!

UPCOMING PROJECTS

Ed and I finally started writing our book. If you guys don’t know this, Ed and I are going to write a book about friendship. I mean, he’s going to write it, and I’m going to illustrate it. And after a few attempts and trying to figuring out the tone of the book, we finally know how we’re going to do it. Have in mind Ed’s never written a graphic novel before, so us, working together in this scenario, is pretty new.

ALSO: Ed has been nagging me to go to Amsterdam with him since almost two years. He’s pretty much obsessed with the city, the culture, the museums, the boats, the parks, everything. He wants to go as soon as possible, and I think it’s crazy because well, I would rather spend the little money we have in one pair of decent bras (hahaha TMI?) but he said: but Fran, you could draw a travel journal! And yes my nerds, I’ve been wanting do draw a new travel journal for so so long. It’s my number 1 sale item on Etsy, and people keep asking me when am I going to come up with new zines and travel journals. Should we go? Can my neglected boobs wait a couple of more months for a new bra? I love VanGogh, and I would love to go to his museum there. Thank god we have a friend living there and we won’t have to pay for a hotel, but still! D:

Ed y yo por fin empezar a escribir nuestro libro. Quizás no sepan esto nerds, pero Ed y yo escribiremos un libro acerca de la amistad. O sea, él escribirá y yo lo dibujaré. Y después de varios intentos y probar el tono que tendrá el libro, por fin sabemos cómo lo haremos. Tengan en cuenta que Ed nunca ha escrito una novela gráfica antes, así que nosotros, trabajando juntos en este escenario, es mega nuevo.

TAMBIEN: Ed me ha insistido que vayamos juntos a Amsterdam con él desde hace dos años. El siempre ha estado obsesionado con la ciudad, la cultura, los museos, los botecitos, los parques, todo. El quiere ir lo antes posible, y yo creo que es una locura porque, bueno, preferiría gastar el poco dinero que tenemos en un par de sostenes/sujetadores decentes (hahaha mucha información?) pero él dijo: Fran! podrías hacer un diario de viaje! Y si mis nerds, he querido hacer un nuevo diario de viaje por tanto tiempo. Es mi item número 1 de ventas en mi tienda Etsy, y muchas personas me siguen preguntando que cuándo voy a salir con nuevos diarios o fanzines. Deberíamos ir? Podrán mis descuidadas bubis esperar un par de meses más por un nuevo sostén/sujetador? Amo VanGogh y amaría ir a su museo. Menos mal que tenemos un amigo viviendo allá y no tendríamos que pagar por un hotel, pero igual D:

UPCOMING CONTENT

After talking about planning, inspiration, motivation and all those sorts of things, I need to talk more about art supplies and illustration on my channel. I think I’ll have a good old brainstorming session about what to film next. I know there’s a pending visit to the National Gallery, and I want to do either a beginners art supply kit or art supplies I’m currently using.

By the way, a lot of you guys suggested (on our last live date drawing session) I should do a book club, and I’m highly considering doing one. But, if I ever do one, it should only be about comics and graphic novels, is that okay?

Después de hablar sobre cómo planificar, inspirarse, motivación y todas esas cosas, necesito volver a hablar de artículos de arte e ilustración en mi canal. Creo que tendré una sesión creativa sobre qué grabar a continuación. Sé que tengo pendiente una visita a la National Gallery, y quiero hacer un video sobre "el primer kit de arte" o "artículos de arte que estoy usando".

A todo esto, muchos de ustedes nerds sugirieron (en nuestra última cita de dibujo en vivo) que debería hacer un club de lectura, y estoy mega considerando la idea de hacer uno. Pero, si alguna vez hago uno, debería ser sobre comics y novelas gráficas, estaría eso bien?
