I finally finished this picture - Elvenking Thranduil and his pet arctic fox. This is an illustration of one of my favorite headcanons, which, unfortunately, is based on an untranslatable play on words(

I have been drawing this picture for almost two years, because my younger cat is very active and dangerous for watercolor, I am afraid that he will unsuccessfully jump on the table, shed and ruin everything, so I have to draw while he sleeps. For markers and other dry materials, it is not so dangerous)

Hi-Res JPG and PSD and Step-by-step is available on  Patreon at the beginning of the next month.

As a fellow Crazy Cat Lady, I am intrigued too! I don't see why LotR elves wouldn't have pets. Tolkien loved animals and the natural world.

We live with the cats, not the other way around :P As for lotr, I think Tolkien was more of a fan of eagles fan than cats... I'll show myself out now. ;)

He certainly loved the natural world in general. The books are full of talking birds and faithful animals. Two of his most powerful heroes, Beorn the werebear and Beren, lover of Luthein, were vegetarians. Beren being vegetarian is actually a plot point; when he loses his hand getting the Silmaril, the animals sense he doesn't mean them harm and nurse him back to health.
