One from the archives - this was shot back in 2010. I was approached by the make up artist (whose name, sadly, I forget) to shoot a test of a new make up design with Annalise, who was a belly dance and burlesque performer in Melbourne at the time.

The MUA found a room nearby to do the make up in, which took ages - we totally lost the light by the time she finished. Fortunately even back then I was travelling with off camera flash. Most of this set was a single flash to give shadow and moodiness. We shot around Federation Square and near the Yarra River in Melbourne.

This set has a larger than usual proportion of close ups, but remember, the purpose of the shoot was the make up.

Technical: Nikon D80 - my first digital SLR - with NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D lens. Light from a Nikon SB-800 speed-light mounted off camera in a 60cm soft box.
