These were all the steps followed to draw the lastest reward for november/october

  • 1- Character sketch: As always, I spend some good time drawing the sketches for the characters featured, this part is always tough when it comes to get the artstyle right, specially when it's a very specific one such as anime.
  • 2- Bg Sketch: Later I draw the outline for the intended background, I wasn't going for anything too fancy so I added just enough to make it look complete.
  • 3- Lineart: As per usual procedure I move on to get the proper linework done for the characters, getting all details properly conveyed too!
  • 4- Flat Colors: Then I add all the flats with a paint bucket tool, of course following the references from the main game, but also coming up myself with the designs for the bikinis! I thought Y uri would be more of a purple like girl just because of her hair and eyes, and Monika would be more into white, looking at her ribbon.
  • 5- Background (1): Then I start working on the background, I start by drawing both the bases for the sky and the sea in two different layers, the sea being on top of the sky, it's important to note I'm using several reference pictures of real beaches, and take all colors from said pictures.
  • 6- Background (2): I remove the sketch since it's not necessary for shading, and I proceed to use a blending brush to add the different needed colors to give some depth to the environment.
  • 7- Background (3): I finalize the sky and sea by adding clouds and waves, using the same technique for the shading in the last step
  • 8- Background (4): Next up, is the shore of the beach! I lay down the base color for the sand, following the bg sketch.
  • 9- Background (5): Then I add the extra colors for the sand to add depth in it, and also add a little extra to show water on the sand, to bridge both shore and sea.
  • 10- Background (6): I add the base for the place where the girls are sitting on, and also added an extra piece of land.
  • 11- Background (7): Then I add the shading and minimal details to the objects.
  • 12- Background (8): Later on I add some parasols (base), because of course you always need some shade from the sun.
  • 13- Background (9): I add the extra shading for the parasols, same as the other props.
  • 14- Lightning effects: Finally, I add some basic environmental shadows produced by the parasols, I color the lineart and also add a tiny little rim light at the border of their bodies, since this is meant to be a simple flat color piece, this is the most I can do without addinc cell shading.
  • 15- Console extra: And for last, a little extra featuring the console from the main game, I went the extra mile to use the exact same font used in the original game too!
