Project X Launch Review (Patreon)

I'm pretty surprised by this launch, so I kind of want to do an overview on some metrics and what that means for future projects.

Project X is the biggest project I've done in years, and long time followers know that I've struggled gaining enough support to do these kind of things sustainably. I hesitate still to put this in the same category as short movies like others I've done since it has minimal animated parts, but it is nonetheless a larger project.

In 4 days since launch, Project X has gained 8k likes on twitter (pretty much doubling my previous best posts), gained just shy of 4k followers (a staggering amount in such a short amount of time), and 17 patrons joined (maybe not as impressive as the other numbers but the most patrons I've seen join in that kind of timeframe). I'm pretty sure 4k followers is also more than I've gained in the previous 6 months combined.

Now, to help put this in perspective here are some other numbers. The Promotion, my last movie, had about 1k likes after 4 days. I don't remember the follower gain but I probably would've put it in the hundreds to maybe a thousand. Those numbers were fine enough at the time, but most disappointingly there were only 4 patrons gained. By the end of that month, I only gained 11. To put it simply, Project X has seen the kind of gains I've always hoped for on projects but never achieved. Additionally, it has brought my Patreon to break 100 patrons for only the second time ever, and the first time in over 4(!) years.

I mostly put this project together in between commissions because I was just passionate about the idea. There were a quite a few nights I wondered if it was really "worth it" but paid them little mind since it was more about wanting to do the idea than anything. Before publicly announcing it, I seriously expected it to get 500ish likes and maybe 2-3 patrons.

I actually feel... encouraged to try working on some more bigger projects for a change. Not huge projects, but modest ones like this that I could put together in a month or so.

I have a couple sequel ideas in mind that I might tackle next, but I'll probably put them into another post later.
