Here’s my July 2024 Patreon update. I haven’t uploaded an audio-only version this time as a good proportion of this one is reliant on the accompanying visuals.

It’s a long one so be sure to utilise the chapters if you want to skip a section.

Oh and I feel I should mention that while I enjoyed my recent short break, I don’t intend  to promote cruises. I'm really not a fan of the industry and I don’t plan on going on more cruises for numerous reasons, but I'm not the only person in the household - so we'll see. Regardless, here’s the finished shortened video I made about a cabin with an unusually large balcony.

I would have loved to seen you with a rooftop aerial strapped to a rucksack out in a field.

That was a really great Oddcast, Matt! I particularly identified with the car specs points you made. I was resistant to automatic gear boxes years ago because, you know, real men change gears manually. Then about 20 years ago, due to a cock-up on an order for a lease vehicle, I was delivered an automatic car, which I had to keep for 3 years. I would say that after about one day, I realised that the car could change gear far more smoothly than I could, and I never went back to manual. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I think people have always been dumb on YouTube. There's just something that happens when they enter the site; all higher brain functions cease. When I was teaching HS informatics, I always had my students watch a video by Tom Scott, where he outlines this dystopian scenario caused by social media, resulting in a riot and death. Each time I would preface the video by saying that it's a fictional scenario, Tom Scott also mentions clearly that it's a fictional scenario based on individual events that have happened, and I would again preface our class discussion by saying that it's a fictional scenario but could potentially happen for real at some point. The idea is to have a discussion about the dangers of blindly sharing other people's personal information online. And every single time, I'd have at least 4-5 students who were convinced that the entire thing was real. This never happened with any other topics, because they didn't involve YouTube videos.

My first auto was a Smart, because they were all auto at that time. People were at pains to point out that it was an ‘automated manual’ not an ‘auto’ but that just told me those people were lost souls. Even though it wasn’t the best at changing gears, I liked the car taking this task away from me - and it’s been all auto cars for me since. Funny how now with electric and hybrid cars all the manual naysayers are being forced to embrace cars without a gear stick and I doubt few of them will mourn for the cramped leg experience of a manual in a traffic jam.

Hello. I'm wondering, two years later, if you still use and like the product you used in the video "Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning - with the HumminGuru". It wasn't perfect, but maybe it was for that only record you tried on that video. Curiosity. Thanks!

I didn’t use it after the video - it was too much faff for me. I’m also very limited for space. I went back to a cloth and a spray.
