the hierophant was not right to believe in all that vampire lore (the whole "you can't enter a house uninvited" thing), if you remember at the beginning of this arc, Marceline (who was still a vampire) entered PB's cabin through the window. The death of the hierophant is understood to mean that he was very old-fashioned and rejected everything that represented modernity to the extent that he was willing to die for his outdated beliefs. In fact, in tarot the arcana of the hierophant represents tradition and the rejection of changes or the inability to adapt to new circumstances.
