Fluttershy is actually totally wrong here. Apple trees are cloned primarily via grafting; every golden delicious, granny smith, gala, or other variety is from the same tree stock. Every seed in an apple tree will produce a new variety, and most are unlikely to be any good. Randomly seeded trees are totally useless to a commercial orchard, and probably harmful when they monopolize nutrients meant for other trees. Agriculture aside, Flutterbat was a big hit in the fandom. Just a generally cool aesthetic, and the darker, primal side contrasts with her ordinary personality, and gives us a neat kind of Jekyll and Hyde situation. Add in the little teaser at the end, and this spawned all sorts of cool art and stories. It also helps that the "Stop the Bats" song was pretty catchy, even for this show.

I grew to appreciate Applejack more during this episode when I first watched it. Here we have a pony who is obsessed with Apples and providing for her family, yet when Flutterbat was endangering her livelihood (and her prized apple), all she cared about was getting her friend back. That there is a quality pony. Enjoyed the Bats! song. Nice of them to adjust the colors and contrast to darker when Applejack sings, and over-saturated when Fluttershy sings. The song was inspired by Danny Elfman's music from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Also couldn't help but notice you forgot to watch the intro :D Not that it's important, but as I said, there are a few subtle differences in there if you want to try to catch them.

Ok, so AI think it’s time to explain batponies. In the episode when we first saw Luna, you could notice that her carriage was towed by very strange looking guard ponies. They had membrane wings, fluffy pointy ears and vertical pupils. They are almost never shown again, aside from one pretty memorable scene, and their existence is never explained. However, Bronies loved them and stared calling them Batponies. They are very popular as Original Characters and play important roles in serveral fan works. So you can imagine that Flutterbat became a fan favourite.

I didn't know that about apple trees! Neat! I knew of grafting, but didn't know that was the primary way they're grown. Perhaps it's different in Equestria, though? Either way, thanks for the agriculture information. :)

Yes, the woman who is famous for dancing while wearing fruit headdresses is Carmen Miranda. Well, it *is* magic. I think it's not too beyond the realm of possibility that more than just apple-obsession can be transferred.

Oh, I see the confusion. Fluttershy's power doesn't reflect off others on its own. It's in conjunction with whatever spell Twilight used. Just using her stare shouldn't be different than when she's used it before, unless something else interferes.

In which we find out the writers have no damn clue how orchards work. Yeah it all sounds good on paper, but Fluttershy's arguments make no sense when compared to how things actually work. And here we have the last ep by Merriwether Williams and... while it doesn't have her usual issues, she found a whole new one. Still, the ep was really damn good, right up to the last two minute where Fluttershy was right for no reason. But, we got the glory of Flutterbat!
