Bye Bye Birdie- Thank you so very much for this fantastic reaction to a musical I love very much, Jay! Bye Bye Birdie is so much fun, and I absolutely love and adore Dick Van Dyke as Albert Peterson!! He's always just so much fun to watch! Always!! Even when he plays a weasel like Albert. I just absolutely love, love, love his charisma and charm, as well as his humor and smile!!!! And I love it whenever he dances, no matter what age he is!!! :) I've loved Dick Van Dyke as Bert ever since I first watched Mary Poppins when I was a little girl, and I love him here in Bye Bye Birdie, in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and in numerous other movies that I've grown up watching with him too. I also really love him in The Dick Van Dyke Show, as well as the older medical drama... Diagnosis Murder, too. Back to Bye Bye Birdie... I also really love Janet Leigh as Rosie DeLeon, also most famous for her role in Hitchcock's, Psycho. And I absolutely love, love, love Ann-Margret as Kim McAfee, and Bobby Rydell as Hugo Peabody. And oh my gosh... Maureen Stapleton as Mama Mae Peterson is so funny, as is Paul Lynde as Kim's father, Harry McAfee. And Jesse Pearson as Conrad Birdie is a hoot. I love the entire cast of characters throughout this movie! As for my favorite songs... I love them all!! However, the few songs that stand out to me the most are Got a Lot of Livin' to Do, simply for the dancing throughout this song that is absolutely incredible and so much fun!! And I absolutely love Put on a Happy Face, sung by Albert, and Everything is Rosie sung by Albert and Rosie, as well as Kim and Hugo. I also really love Going Steady. It's a really fun song. :) I love that Ed Sullivan makes appearances, as he plays himself throughout this movie. Ed Sullivan was one of the original talk show/variety show hosts who lived long before I was even born, and I love seeing what he did. As for some of my favorite scenes... The whole song and dance number and scene during Got a Lot of Livin' to Do is my favorite scene throughout this entire movie. I love it so much!! What a dance!! I also love the entire ballet fiasco when Bert and Rosie drug the composer to speed up the ballet performed. And I love how Mama Mae Peterson sticks her head in the electric oven throughout the song... Kids. I love how dramatic Mama Mae Peterson is. So hilarious! :) And lastly... I just really love the overall story throughout this musical. I love the story, the characters, and the music!! Thank you very much once again for this marvelous reaction for Bye Bye Birdie, my dear friend! I absolutely love musicals, and I am so happy that there are still so many musicals I can introduce you to!! :) Sincerely, Heidi
