Storywise, this chapter is to show that Cora isn't just hanging out on the wilderness with no purpose, her character does have a goal to achieve, which will be crucial to the plot further down the line. 
This chapter is also about her motto, which is action speaks louder than words. Basically if anyone would like to get close to her as a person, they would need to proof their worth thru action :-) cos she ain't buying sweet talking bullshit :-)
