Still months later I realized I truly have no idea what the Fortnight music video depicts, just speculation lol 😂 Taylor said it's a video about "experiments done on tortured poets." In that context I thought the beginning scene and her being strapped down were the only "real" scenes. I think everything else was in her head. Like she was not doing well mentally, and was in a psych ward. She fell in love with someone who caused her pain (post Malone the scientist who was running tests on her) and imagined a life with him (the hugging scene- he has no tattoos in that scene! So it's not real life?). It like killed me to see that scene where he's putting her through pain for the tests, and just him unplugging it and making the pain stop made her fall in love with him. It felt like a really good metaphor for when Matty stopped the bleeding after her heartbreak with Joe. He was there to stop her pain and she fell in love with that kindness. And then maybe the phone scene at the end was them connecting a lot over the phone. I think she kind of references that a lot in her other songs ("all those nights you kept me going, swirled you into all of my poems/drowning in the blue nile, he sent me downtown lights") I don't know how that ties into the rest of the video though, I need to read others comments 😂 Also my favorite easter egg that you might appreciate since you're wearing the cardigan is the beginning of bejeweled when Taylor is cleaning the floors you see the gold "invisible string" referencing folklore and Taylor saying "ugh this is her best work" 😂 I also thought that rope scene with ice spice was like Taylor "showing her the ropes" of fame... the moon and Saturn mentioned from seven made me think Taylor was referencing how close they became as friends.

man i really need to get into haim one of these days i haven't given them the attention they deserve. all the midnights vids had easter eggs that referenced speak now being the next taylor's version drop and in the moment i feel like we only picked up on a few of them but looking back at it now it was so obvious lol

This was such a great surprise. I love your Taylor videos. And I would also love to see your reaction to Eras. I've been wanting to rewatch the movie again recently so I'm all for a reaction/rewatch. Regarding easter eggs, there are so many, but most of them are about Speak Now TV. As you pointed out the elevator in Bejeweled was the biggest one with the 13 being purple and her pressing the 3 button (after she goes to the third floor (SN) she goes to the 5th floor alluding to the fact that 1989 would come after SN). An orchestral version of Enchanted played at the beginning and Long Live played at the end. Her hair pins in the castle say S and N on them. The balcony is similar to the one from the Speak Now tour. The clock she's sitting on in the talent show is at 3 o'clock The koi fish in Lavender Haze was another Speak Now easter egg for the famous koi fish guitar Taylor played at the Speak Now tour and while playing Long Live at Eras. The pedestal she stands on in Karma while she's the golden goddess says 1989 on it in Roman numerals letting us know that 1989 TV was coming after Speak Now which had already been announced by then. And yes that was a reference to The Wizard of Oz in Karma. Those are all the ones I remember, other than the ones other comments have already pointed out. Also that coffee cup you paused on at the end of Karma has been everywhere since that video dropped. So many wrong theories have come from that damn coffee cup.

I've been thinking about the "Karma" video a lot ever since TTPD came out. There is so much Greek imagery in the video: the scales of justice, Hades, the River Styx. TTPD has Greek references too: Casandra and her prophesies, Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the hill, Aristotle. The Karma video came out in May 2023. She had to have made the video around the time she was writing the songs. I think the song "Fortnight" is allegorical. We know that Taylor isn't really living in the suburbs with a cheating husband. However, it does seem to represent a woman who had both a long-term relationship and a short-term fling and ended up miserable. Perhaps she was just flexing her muscles as a writer, or perhaps she wanted to write about some things without being direct. The most famous allegory I can think of is the Wizard of Oz, which many have interpreted as an allegory about the gold standard, and that takes me right back to the "Karma" video. I really appreciate how the "Fortnight" video looks like a silent film, and of cource Clara Bow was a silent film star. There are too many Easter eggs in the Bejeweled music video to go through, but my favorite is the stained glass in the castle. There are snakes and koi fish and all sorts of things that represent past eras. I missed so many Easter eggs the first time I watched this video, but I had an absolute melt down when she stepped onto the balcony that is straight out of the Speak Now tour. Please consider watching the reputation songwriting sessions. It's my favorite thing to watch or listen to Taylor write. Maybe when we get the rep TV announcement? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4WlSnWtkt8&t=2s

You know, I’ve grown a bit cynical with Taylor recently. I used to love all her videos and I do like Anti-Hero and Fortnight in this one but ones like Bejewelled and Karma just feel like Easter eggs shoehorned into a video, no real storytelling, no real solid concept that matches the emotions of the song but just pretty images, outfits and Easter eggs. And maybe that’s all they need to be and I’m just a hater. But it just feels so mass produced or something. There’s no feeling in it, there’s no… like personality in it? I don’t know. This is totally subjective obviously, and I’ve not really got full evidence for it like somethings off and I can’t identify what it is in certain music videos? I love Taylor so much as well. Maybe it’s just me 😭. I honestly hope it’s just me tbh cos it’s got me feeling disillusioned with some of the recent content. Hopefully fortnight means she is taking a different approach? Cos I thought that felt cinematic, cool, visually interesting and emotionally connected to the lyrics to me. I think once Rep TV is out and re-records done, she’ll have more time to do more and different types of music videos when she does new music in the future so I’m excited for that!!

Loved this impromptu content. I just got my cardigan too! Regarding the Fortnight mv she said that she wanted the video to hint at the whole album. There are lots of theories and interpretations out there, and I personally think Post is supposed to represent multiple muses. She's definitely referencing Clara Bow the silent film star, and using the metaphor of the insane asylum/hospital for the breakup last year. The miracle move on drug/forget him pill that worked temporarily was her rebound (we know who that is). She was able to connect through writing with him as tortured poets. I think the papers creating Taylor's silhouette was to show us the idealized version of a partner that Taylor created in her head that she's been looking for all her life, but she realizes it's not real while the papers are swirling around them. Cut to the laboratory and he's both experimenting on her and trying to "save" her through love bombing. Then that muse is gone, and she has to burn all the files/poetry of her past to truly move on from both relationships. She's left isolated in the tumultuous rainstorm of her emotions. She's still the monster on the hill, but she has someone new trying to reach out to her from the American telephone booth. He can't reach her initially, but he finally connects with her by stepping out into the rain to hold her hand and just be there with her as she weathers the storm. To me this is supposed to be Travis trying to give her the friendship bracelet but being rejected, and then putting himself out there on his podcast even though it caused him ridicule and a media storm. She used this last scene in the spotify cover for The Alchemy (their hands connecting). The random dog was for The Black Dog!

The Koi Fish Easter egg was so funny to me. She announced Speak Now a few months later on National Koi Fish Day😂😂

Xue Lynn

have you noticed that in the paper face scene, posty didnt have his tatts 😆

Richard

You forgot I can see you video from Speak Now TV. Also did you react to the TTPD set on the eras tour?

Danielle Hogan

The office they are working in is the tortured poets department and the papers are their poetry swirling around them. When the papers are on the ground, it’s the shape of Taylor’s profile and they are laying in her mind. I love the idea of it

Danielle Hogan

In the beginning of Fortnite you see her take the forget him pill and then they test her mind to see if she forgot him or not and then they go to zap her when they realize it didn’t work. He stops it because he doesn’t want her to forget him even if they aren’t together. Love your reactions!

avery

would love to watch you watch the Eras tour! Is that coming?

Mandi

You’ve gotta watch “I bet you think about me” video from the red vault tracks!! Such a GREAT video
