Ahhhh this rewatch with you guys just proves to me (personally) that to me, Standing Next to You is like, an average song, that's only brought to excellence because it's JK. JK's vocals and intensity, SPECIFICALLY the VOCALS, is what makes this song special. Like the melody, the genre, the instrumentals are all good but nothing special. It's JK's runs, how he does them, when he does his runs, how he connects his phrasings; all that makes the song special.

The statement of Kpop being created in the way of Michael Jackson has come to my mind many times during being a Kpop fan. I mean… just the annoying phrases of the general public like: “They look so gay-ish/why do they wear make-up?” and I guess I don’t have to continue… these people saying this made me ask: “Well… nobody has any problem to watch music video of Michael Jackson or hear his song somewhere, although they way he presented himself is more less the things you mentioned about Kpop” And then I realized not just the visual look, but the dance element of Kpop having a big role by having specific dancing positions in the group. Music video with story telling and again dance focused parts. Actually during TaeMin’s solo I was thinking there is a big similarity between these two artists. Like both of them being so well known for their specific and unique dance technic, both coming of a boy group and more. But in general, Kpop is heavily influenced by Michael Jackson. I mean, it makes sense. Beside the influence of Seo Taiji and Boys, which made differences in the Korean music scene, which led to creating Kpop with its training system, there was Lee Soo Man coming back from the US with the idea of creating groups based on his experience of being amazed by MTV, which was definitely influenced by Michael Jackson. And although the training system (with which Lee Soo Man came up with and basically created the “base-line” for creating Kpop groups) wasn’t inteded to be a thing because of MTV or Michael Jackson (it was because of a bad experience with Hyun Jin Young, who was SM’s first artist and got arrested because of selling meth, which led Lee Soo Man to wanting to have a control over their artists), it is interesting that even in this aspect we have this kind of similarity to Michael Jackson’s upbringing

Thank you for this in-depth, intelligent reaction, and the fleshing out of the MJ influence and the evolution that has happened since MJ's time. ( I hope I interpreted that correctly.) When I watch this video, I don't think of MJ, except at the hip thrust near the end. The rest is JK bringing his flavor, intensity and passion. His vocals are insane. I am so excited about what he is doing. Again thank you much.

Michael Jackson became the king of pop because he was born with the talent. He started his career when he was 5 years old. He created his own music and legacy with his own visions. He didnt have a company to fuel him. it ran through his blood and veins. He charted and broke records way younger than Jungkook even started to. Nonetheless, i do believe that this release is MJ's legacy come full circle.

I think the only idol outside of K-pop that can compete as an all rounder is Bruno Mars
