Yeah… BIGBANG is not coming back unless there is a big anniversary. At first I was hoping at least for subgroups like GDxTaeYang, but as it seems, they are all on their own solo work. Still Life was more of a promise that was kept rather than a comeback… Regarding your comparison to EXO and their “after military time”. Well, you have to keep in mind they are from SM and you are not done with SM until SM says… so it’s a bit hard to compare, since both groups have a really different background. Speaking of MAMAMOO! Yes, there are many cases like: “I am not part of the label, but I am staying with the group”, but that doesn’t work in most of the cases. I feel like one of the first good examples is Zico and Block B… With MAMAMOO it actually works, because although Whee In left to another company, she signed special contract just for the activities with MAMAMOO. Basically her signing up with another label was purely for her solo work. And hey… sure… matching the schedule of hers in another company with the schedule of 3 other members being under one company makes it a bit complicated, so for sure they couldn’t work together as much as they would like to (maybe because of that the latest EP contains just 3 songs), but they managed to make it at least somehow. But this special contract for Whee In is coming to its end in this December and with Hwasa being in another label as well, it makes it 3 different companies, so 3 different schedules to match for a group comeback and activities, so I don’t know how much it will be possible for them. Also since Hwasa didn’t sign the special contract as Whee In did, although she announced she would continue with MAMAMOO, I am not sure whether Whee In will resign the special contract and I feel like RBW saw this situation coming, so they formed MAMAMOO+ in advance to have at least that subgroup working.

Loved the talk about mental health and exercising because I've also been trying to get back into it. For me I think I was always out of shape, but the 2 years of spending the pandemic inside doing nothing really really fucked me up. As much as I think going cold turkey on some things like smoking is the best thing to do, remember balance is also important, especially for things like entertainment and you time, but also work. I know work is your life and you enjoy it but it's still work and if you want to cut your addictions, I think you should probably cut working a little as well. Just my opinion obviously, I'm not in there and I do know in the end you'll do whatever you got to do. Hope you update us through the process! BTOB also survived the military and the 7 year curse, which idk why you don't really think or talk about them anymore, but I wanted to point them out. Obviously Ilhoon had to leave, but that's just something that we had to deal with and BTOB still makes sure to point out that they are still 7 and melodies also support Ilhoonie even till today. The first song I thought of that I would choose to listen to before I die is IU's Through the Night. Any IU lullaby would work as well, because they're like a hug in a song and that feeling is just what I want before I'm about to die.

- Thank you for reminding me that I need to listen to way more French music. I only really have Stromae in semi-regular rotation and he's technically not even French. He's from Belgium. - I can relate to what you're saying about workouts. A few years ago I started to get some help to improve my diet and I also started to do regular home workouts. Looking back, I did feel quite a lot better back then. But for whatever reason I didn't keep it up. And especially since my father passed I've been in a kind of motivation hole that I just can't seem to escape from. I don't have the drive to start working out again, my diet is terrible and I've put on a lot of weight. And that has direct impacts on my mental health. It creates this vicious cycle of lacking motivation. I'm not quite sure how to get out of there. I know I need therapy but getting a good therapist in Germany is super difficult if you don't have expensive private insurance. And the wait times are ridiculous. Which again kills my motivation to even try. - 2023 has been absolutely packed with insane releases. I must have added well over a thousand songs from this year to my playlists. I'm just gonna run down some names here: H1-Key, SF9, Monsta X, GOT the beat, TXT, XG, Viviz, NCT, tripleS, Key, Purple Kiss, Stray Kids, Twice, Pixy, Onew, TAN, Kai, Trendz, Nmixx, Craxy, Kingdom, Jimin, Billlie, Mamamoo, xikers, Kep1er, IVE, Lee Chaeyeon, Tempest, Agust D, Seventeen, Alice, Xdinary Heroes, Le Sserafim, The Boyz, iKON, Oneus, aespa, (G)I-DLE, Enhypen, Dreamcatcher, Kard, B.I, fromis_9, P1Harmony, &Team, Ateez, Kang Daniel, I.M, Yena, SHINee, Kiss of Life, BTOB, ZB1, Odd Eye Circle, EXO, NewJeans, Itzy, Treasure, Kwon Eunbi, Jeon Somi, Stayc, Everglow, Jihyo. ALL of these artist have done something really special this year. I probably even missed some. - Mamamoo is SORTA active. Initially only Wheein left and went to Ravi's label (oops) but still released Illella with the group and went on that Asia and USA tour this year. And now Hwasa has left RBW as well to join P Nation. Solar and Moonbyul are still in RBW and they've actually started a subunit last year called Mamamoo+. And Mamamoo+ has been really active, having had multiple unit comebacks already. They were actually supposed to be at a festival in Germany in September but that was cancelled because the festival couldn't get any more artists besides Mamamoo+ and 2NE1's Minzy. - Last Kpop song I'd want to hear before I die? Oof, hard question. Maybe I'll be your man by BTOB? I completely broke down when I heard that live. It is my number 1 favourite song ever, regarless of genre. So probably that one. - I haven't had the time to watch your EXO listening party yet so I don't know if you already know. But there is a music video for Let Me In. And it's beautiful! - And Itzy's None of my Business also has an MV. - Confession, I've never watched Lee Mujin Service before. With the sheer fucking amount of content out there I just never got around to this show. This is gonna be my first one. - I don't know, this acoustic piano rendition of Cake really doesn't work for me. - Red Lipstick is basically the one Lee Hi song I know and only because I saw her sing it at MIK Festival last year. It left an impression on me for sure. And Yeji's version is amazing! - Wait what? You're telling me that Yeji can just cover IU and do her justice like that?? - I'm Gonna Love You is my favourite song from D.O.'s solo debut EP. And obviously these two crushed it. The original is a duet with Wonstein btw. - Well I guess I have to actually start watching Lee Mujin Service. But I don't have the TIME. Argh. - WAIT WHAT YOU HAVE NOT HEARD EXO'S MAMA? WHAT?!? - Ice Cream Cake too? Jaehyuk PD, my friend, you need to get up to speed with the early 3rd gen SM catalogue. - I'm completely with you about Chen. I've heard all three of his Korean albums and I didn't like them. This style of music is just not for me. But. Then came the Killing Voice. And oh my god. That alone has made Chen my FAVOURITE vocalist in EXO. And now Chen has come out with his Japanese debut. JAEHYUK PD. LISTEN TO CHEN'S JAPANESE ALBUM. It is VASTLY different from everything he's done solo before. On every song I was like „Huh? Chen makes music like THIS now?“ It's one of the biggest surprises of the year for me.

I just had an idea: how about a livestream where we go back and explore all of that 2010 - 2015 Kpop that you haven't seen yet?

SD

Do you think you will be watching V's music videos this month or do you think you're going to wait for the release of the full album in September? Also, I definitely agree with Blaire! You should definitely listen to D.O.'s solo music. It may be more acoustic than you're used to but it's great.

Did Pd react to V's songs ?

I love this podcast's episodes so much!!! Thank you guys for lighting up my day!

I feel like if I had to choose a last ever kpop song to listen to it has to be a maximalist like most pop like hyper thing full of energy, like I would go more fun so sugary it makes your teeth hurt kind of anthem more than emotional like maybe Fancy by TWICE or anything by WJSN Chocome just like nothing would be better than going out to the absurd cheesy fun hat is Super Yuppers or something wildly femme like Step by KARA or I Got A Boy by SNSD

Regarding the one episode of Kimetsu no Yaiba, which you missed… it is anime filler episode. That’s why it wasn’t included in the movie

Ena

You know, I was wondering what yours guys thoughts on the whole Fifty Fifty situation going on right now was and I think it might be an interesting thing to discuss in a future podcast maybe. I don’t know if you guys want to bring that type of thing on the pod or if you guys are even up to date since it’s kind of heartbreaking but nonetheless I thought I’d leave a comment suggestion. Would be interesting to hear PDs thought since, from what I’ve seen, the Korean public seems very firmly against the group while internationally it’s the opposite.

I’ve just remembered! JaeHyuk PD mentioned he left Kpop at the moment Nicole left Kara… as Blaire said to that statement of his: “Wait… you are leaving?? Okay, I’m going with you…” According to the news, she left on the 4th of October 2013. So that’s the day! Everything after that until GOT7 - If You Do (28th of September 2015) is just dead for him. Wait… Seventeen debuted earlier that year… PD, you are cheating! You didn’t find out about Seventeen right with their debut!! They already had come back with Mansae by the time you found out about If You Do by GOT7!
