Baby Monster Final Evaluation EP 8

One fan fact: There is a small sample of As If It’s Your Last by BLACKPINK in their performance, but the song was initially meant to be 2NE1’s song with the title: „Blame It On Your Love“. So, I don’t know if it is just random coincidence, but maybe it was a small easter egg for BlackJacks (2NE1’s fans) 😎🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

About Chiquita being born in 2009. Yeah, I was thinking about this with Koki during LOUD. Like… take a movie/song/anything and compare its release date to the year these two were born. They were 4 years old, when BTS debuted! And 3 years old when Gangnam Style was released!! In this episode I started to love LeeJung so much! She has such a good charisma and persona. It reminded me how I started to like Lip J the most of all people in Boys Planet… 😅😅 When LeeJung mentioned 2NE1!! OMG!! I mean, I was already super glad that Ruka chose CL’s 멘붕(MTBD) for her solo performance, but this moment made me scream! And the fact that it is a mash-up of 2NE1’s songs!! Like… after it was released, I started to replay the performance section of the video at least 10+ times a day for every day until now… At 14:10 of your reaction video - The throwback to BIGBANG’s days… I mentioned before that I feel like YG is going 100% on with BABYMONSTER. That it even feels like the whole YG history came to this moment. And they are really putting throwbacks here and there, easter eggs, the whole company (or okay… most of the company) is engaged in their preparations etc. I know this is not something that unusual to do during preparing a new group. But the way it is presented here!

25:32 - Yang Hyun Suk forgot to mention his wife's former, the first YG, girl group Swi.T 😆 (which was formed of 3 members...) Also one thing I noticed! At the very end in the scene of questioning him, he is wearing Apple Watch Ultra! The whole Last Evaluation took place somewhere in the first half of 2022. So that last part had to be recorded after the whole Last Evaluation was done. Basically after September 2022 because of the Apple Ultra Watch. Which means he let them train for the rest of the year, so since he kept all of them until now, he might have changed his opinion about the 5 members final line up, but since the Last Evaluation was recorded in the times, where he truly thought someone will be eliminated, he just used that recorded material to create this dramatic series, where fans can really get attached to all of them.

Today on their instagram story this photo was posted: https://www.koreaboo.com/news/babymonster-netizens-name-pre-debut-member-likely-end-final-lineup/ (Just 5 empty frames). People are saying that the same was done with Treasure. That at first they announced just the "first line up" and then added the rest. But with Treasure they definitely had in mind that they want two groups and they just couldn't say it out loud. So although Treasure was after some changes put together into one group only, the case was they were supposed to be two groups (which would work all together as well). Here I don't think they will announce: "Here is the 5 members line up... and we decided to have these two as a duo"... Actually at the beginning of the show I was thinking that they could do something similar as they planned with Treasure. To have 2 groups formed of 4 members each. In a way that Ahyeon would be in the both groups and they could all work together time to time as it was meant to be with Treasure back then. Like for example: Asa, Chiquita, Rora & Ahyeon. And the second one: Ruka, Pharita, Haram and & Ahyeon. It was just a random idea. But now I really doubt they would make 5 members group and then add Ahyeon to the two eliminated ones to make a group of 3. I mean, I like formations of 3, so it would be cool, but that is super rare these days... So my guess now is that they will intentionally announce just 5 members line up. Fans will go angry and loud and then they will announce: "Okay, you made us change our mind, we will keep all 7 of them". So it will make like an illusion that fans had the last vote/they made the choice, but it will be actually all planned by Yang Hyun Suk after all. I already mentioned it in previous episodes. The only way they would promote all of them this much to eliminate some of them, would be in the case that those two would transfer to The Black Label to debut with the upcoming girl group, so they would make a special bond between these two groups as Enhypen and &Team have. But at the end of the video, there is a song playing and apparently all the vocal members are on it... So I don't think (like there is no way) they would eliminate only the rappers (Asa and Ruka), who are not on the ending song (or at least their part wasn't included).

WiseSmellyLegs

If I had to make only 5 members group of them. It would be: Asa, Ruka, Ahyeon, Chiquita, Pharita. BUT! In the case of Pharita it is really neck to neck between her and Haram being the last member to join. Asa and Ruka are the rappers for this group, like there is no need to say more. They complement each other with their styles so good and they are also the most skilled in the dancing department. Ahyeon is the all rounder of this group and also the core of this group. She will have both vocal and rap parts. Chiquita (with Ahyeon) is right behind Asa and Ruka in the terms of dancing skills, but we have to keep in mind she will get better and better really fast! And also it doesn't make sense not to include her, if they went through the risk of introducing her (like a lot of people have a problem with debuting young idols). And beside that we have to keep in mind she has built the reputation of being the "younger Lisa/Lisa's sister", so it would not be clever to eliminate her. Also her vocal skills are really good for her age! So for the end we have 3 vocals and throughout the show I wasn't able to choose, which one of them is the best. Like all 3 of them are better than Chiquita for example, but it is really hard for me to put them into any order. With Rora I talked about this before. She has a god-like voice, but she doesn't have her own "face" as other ones here have. Also she might be the least good at dancing. Haram used to be the only one, who caught my attention the least (the rest was all equal) during and right after the introducing videos. But during the Last Evaluation my opinion about her has completely changed! I definitely agree with PD Hyuk's words. Beside her vocal skill she showed she is good at dancing as well (before I wasn't sure with that) and she might be even better than Pharita. So the reason why I chose Pharita is her language ability. I can imagine having both her and Haram's voice in the group as the main vocal. So it is hard to choose. And that's why I made my last decision based on the fact that they are planning to go global right from the start with this group, so beside her being Thai, she is also fluent in English and that will be helpful (and also in Korean as well, considering she is a foreigner). On the other hand. Ahyeon is there for the role of being the English speaker, so yeah... there is not that big need to have Pharita there as well and because of that, I can imagine Haram being there instead of her. But in the situation like this, we can say that Yang Hyun Suk gave Rora her stage name (her name is Da In officially), so he was sure to have her in the group... and well... he mentioned a lot of other things about the other members too. Like speaking about Pharita being the face of the group... So we cannot really assume that much from those things. As I mentioned... there is a song at the end, where all 5 vocals sing, so they will after all debut all 7 and it will be done in the way I mentioned in another comment here. But if I really had to make them just 5, this would be my line up.

Yes, the emotional song at the end is not a cover (seems to be an original new song) and we hear all five vocalists (Chiquita, Rora, Ayheon, Pharita, Haram) singing in the short part that we got. So my expectation still stands, that this will be the first original Babymonster song and they will perform / release it at the announcement tomorrow in full (including a rap part for Asa and Ruka). Also: the lyrics seem to be written for that reason and very fitting (making the argument for OT7 even stronger)! So, why do we hear all 5 vocalists in a new (Babymonster) song, if they're not gonna debut all 5? Sure YG might debut them as a purely vocal group, letting Asa or Ruka be their own rap duo or join Blacklabel for their upcoming group. But then Babymonster wouldn't have the (hip hop) "YG Genes" anymore. Very unlikely. And sure, Rora (and Haram) are a bit outside the group dynamics since they're still living at home (not the dorm) and Pharita didn't stand out as much as other members (besides her vocals), but that might be just editing. So I'm not sure. Rose and Jisoo didn't fit the "YG Genes" as well and we know where they landed in the end. Especially Rora reminds me (more than any other member in the group) of all those qualities that Rose brings to Blackpink even with her more sweet and innocent personality. Personally if Rora gets cut, I'm out... and I imagine every fan at this point has that one (or two) member(s), that "NEED" to be part of the group or they will riot. Will YG really alienate a part of the fandom by cutting somebody after they invested so much money to make sure these fans are emotionally attached to every member. I still have a hard time to believe that they will cut down to 5. Of course with YG everything is possible. On some level I'm curious what happens with the fandom if they really cut somebody.

Guthwulf

you've gone all out with your comments :D If we go with your five (Asa, Ruka, Ahyeon, Chiquita, Pharita) they would cut 2 of the 3 Korean members, leaving Ahyeon as the only Korean member. There is no way, that this will happen. I agree... Chiquita is set (since they hype her up sooo much as "the next Lisa"). I also think Asa and Ahyeon are "safe" for the reasons you mentioned and because of the editing in the show. Before the show I would've bet that Haram will be the most likely to get cut, but she surprised me a lot with her solo performance and now with her choreography / dancing. So with that we have: Ahyeon, Asa, Chiquita + 2 (Ruka, Haram?) But YG seems to really like Rora's voice and Rora reminds me a lot of Rose's unique strengths. So maybe Rora instead of Haram? And Pharita has her own unique tone / vocals as well. Her clarity and power might be needed as contrast to the other members. In my opinion Pharita is the worst in dancing among all 7, but that means she is only "very very good" in dancing (and she also is young having time to grow; we know where Jisoo started regarding dancing) ;) My personal favorites out of the 7 are Rora and Ruka btw. I don't want to see them get cut. I might be out, if that happens... Still believe in an OT7 debut, but with YG you never know....

WiseSmellyLegs

Yeah, I am really into BABYMONSTER, so I have a lot of to say 😅😅 I hope nobody sees that as spaming here, that is not my intention. I heard people saying that one Koream member is no way to go. I don’t know… they are planning to go global anyway, so… Like, sure! It is important to have popularity in Korea as well, but they are from the Big 3, so for sure people in Korea will pay attention to them. But in case it is really a big problem even from YG’s point of view. I would replace Pharita with Haram, as I already thought about too

Guthwulf

Than we would be at my 5 line up :) I'm sure Babymonster will be positioned as "global group", but for K-Pop / as a K-Pop company YG still needs the Korean market as foundation to build upon, even when going global. And don't worry about your comments. Its nice to learn about your thoughts and reasoning. Thats what comment sections should be for... real substantial discussions :)

Aside from this performance, in which she was absolutely amazing , I think I want Ruka to debut just because of the fact that she's the oldest. Like I want at least one member that others can rely on and talk to. I don't know if you know but she's actually 21 years old :D

Ian Elliott

Not that I think or agree that any should be cut, but if two are cut, then my own feelings are it would be Asa and Pharita. Asa is the most technically skilled rapper and one of the best dancers. I don't think "currently" her delivery is as "YG" as Ruka or Ahyeons though. To me they have more swag (Ruka) and sass (Ayheon). Pharita is a good dancer, but whether is confidence or skill level, she seems lacking in her performance when compared to the others. No doubts that she has wonderful powerful, bright, clear vocals though. Strange that it these two I mentioned that are not shown delivering a message to their members at the end of this episode too.

WiseSmellyLegs

Yeah, right! When PD Hyuk mentioned Haram might be the eldest one, I wanted to mention that Ruka is actually the eldest. She is quite a lot older than other ones in BABYMONSTER. She was born 2002 and the second eldest is Pharita being born 2005. The rest is just younger and younger up to Chiquita (2009)

I pretty sure PD will react to it, so I don’t know… your comment feels a bit like a spoiler 😬😬

Guthwulf

why? what is the spoiler? YG already said in episode 8 at the end that he will announce the 5 members on may 12th. I only linked that announcement? ;) Looking forward to hear PD thoughts on it... Hope he stays away from social media until then and doesn't get spoiled who made it into Babymonster. We can discuss later under his reaction :D So please... nobody spoil him!

The 5 members that YHS selected surprise me a bit. I would hold off discussion for now and wait for PD posting the video on his thought first.
