MY GOD PD IT'S 2 AM HERE LIKE I GOTTA SLEEP BUT I NEED TO WATCH THIS RIGHT NOW!!?!?

Angie

itzy killing it this year!!!!!

Hadassah Henderson

Ok, I had to pause and comment for the lyrics of gas me up. So I believe wig refers to the saying “wig out.” To “wig out” is to go crazy, so in the context of “They tell me wig wig wig I gotta gas me up,” it means that people are telling them to go crazy and eliminate all the competition, which would “gas them up.” It’s a slang term mainly used for people in their 30s-50s because I know my Mom’s generation uses it a lot. Also, I think it’s primarily known in the black community, or that’s where I hear it in a lot of old-school rap from the east coast and stuff. I hope that helps!

You know I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like the new standing setup but I found myself actually vibing with you a lot more! It really does put the party in listening party. And I felt like we were just chilling at a party together listening to the album, groovin a bit, then having a nice discussion after about each song. Listening parties can be kind of stale after a while but this is a refreshing new side to listening parties that I really enjoyed, so thanks!

I honestly enjoyed the standing setup. It was nice seeing you just vibing for the entire album. As for my favorites from the album, it is hard to choose. I really dig swipe, in fact I catch myself dancing along to it when I'm working. I also dig Love Is and Mirror. Sometimes you need a slower bop to really get the most out of an album experience.

For me objectively this is their best album yet. As you said it feels like a statement of „This is ITZY“ and it combines the best aspects of their previous releases. My personal favorites on this album are Love is, Chillin Chillin and Gas Me Up. For Twenty, I really love the verses, but I don’t vibe with the chorus as much. Still a good song. And Yuna impressed me too. I guess only Soyeon could do it faster. So all in all a phenomenal album. Subjectivity I liked their Guess Who EP a little bit more, tho.

So this album is incredible. I would say that I'm a casual listener of Itzy, and I love all their title tracks, but I've never really loved their b-sides. Besides the Guess Who album in which I liked two of their b-sides. Every mini-album they've put out previously, I was just like..this is t? In comparison to their title tracks, most of their b-sides for me just felt lackluster. Now, this album, though, might turn me into a Midzy just from a musical standpoint. I had very neutral expectations for this album, but they blew my expectations out of the water in every way possible. This album...THIS ALBUM showcased their VERSATILITY, POWER, AND ARTISTRY so clearly and is a message to anyone that ever doubted their sound. My favorites are Twenty, Soo Lucky, and Love Is. Whenever a girl group does a heavy rap song, I never know what to expect, but wow, I think this is one the best rap-heavy idol songs I have ever heard. The composing and production of this song are just immaculate, and Yuna, for me, was such a standout. Idk if JYP was keeping her as a secret weapon, but her verse killed me. The amount of times I had to listen to that song is honestly innumerable. It's just so good. I love Soo Lucky so much, and it has a special place in my heart. It gives me such a comforting feeling whenever I hear it, and their voices blend so well. Yuna, Yeji, and Lia have such smooth and beautiful vocals, and they complement this song so well. Every time I listen to it, I feel strangely hopeful and sentimental. Love Is has such a pretty color to it, and I personally really vibe with the lyrics. Everybody wants to love somebody, and it's okay to be a little bit selfish combined with the "yeahs" hits so hard for me. I honestly think this album established and expanded on Itzy's sound in a way that was surprising and delightful to experience. I have to give them significant props for everything they accomplished here. It's incredible.

my personal favorite was gas me up, something about the way that yeji sounds in her verse just blew my mind

flowerbit

I just realized Chillin Chillin would be a really nice weeekly b side too

flowerbit

My favorites off the album are #Twenty, Swipe, Mirror, and Love is. The physical album is really awesome too because it includes so much stuff in it (like my shelf is full now) so I’m really overall so happy with this album/era

flowerbit

Btw PD you should really react to WJSN’s recent Unnatural ep!! It’s really really great

Ken

lol i have to pause the listening party to explain 'wig'. it does refer to the hair piece. 'wig' is from aave (african american vernacular english). it's a slang term invented/used by black people that essentially means you look so good/did something so cool that my wig flew off. though as with pretty much all aave slang its been rebranded as slang coming from gay white ppl?? bc us white ppl like to steal lol

Ken

at least that's how the word is used by a lot of young people since it kind of gained popularity on twitter and stuff along w the words like lit

formoftherapy

Okay I'm an old person so I'm familiar with wigging out but I've also not heard it used in a good way ever??? Also who TELLS someone to "go wig". People say "go crazy". I never thought it could be referring to this because it seems to make even less sense to me lmao

formoftherapy

see I'm aware of how wig is used by young people but then those lyrics make even... less sense. I know we excuse a lot of grammatical nonsensicalness in K-Pop but ????

randomAlienVisitor

standing or sitting makes no difference for me, whatever is more comfortable or enjoyable of you is fine.

Belle Christina

i would like to tattoo this whole album on my body, what a masterpiece it is

Wiktor

Ok but doesn't 'BOOM BOX' beginning sound like 'spooky scary skeleton' song? 😂 I cant unhear it.

So glad for this listening party. I'm so in love with this album, and it's great watching your response to it. I was in the middle of working on stuff while listening to it for the first time, and both Swipe and #Twenty just brought me to a halt in shock at how good the songs were. Also, love the standing setup. I feel like we get so much more energy from you which really helps convey your feelings about the tracks.

love is, chillin chillin, and mirror just make me feel some sort of way😩

Donslaught

Hey guys! Welcome everybody to PD's Noraebang Dance Party! I love this 😂

Brooklyn

Mirror sounds like such a “swaying in a stadium with your lighters in the air” kind of ballad and I am such a sucker for those kinds of songs. Honestly this album to me is one that would make such a well-rounded concert, like I can picture the setlist and the concept already and I wish COVID would fuck off so they could tour this and Guess Who. Also someone already pointed out the AAVE usage of wig and I also just want to share my thoughts. Wig is kind of like an exclamation, or at least its own stand alone word/response. Like you’d typically here someone only say the word “wig” as a response by itself, or an exclamation similar to “yas” (especially in the co-opted white gay context). And so they way they use it is technically correct, but because they sing through it instead of using it as an exclaimed ad lib or something similar, I think that is what makes it sound awkward. Also the way they say “they tell me wig, wig” - like you’d rarely hear someone say that, and especially not without the typical tone (which is lost in singing). It’s also just an awkward word to say if you’re not a native English and/or AAVE speaker because of the different pronunciations of “i” in English vs Korean.

Donslaught

Also PD, I don't know if you knew this but Earattack is credited on the Intro and title track for Elris' Jackpot... And now I'm sad.

I had to look up wig on the urban dictionary and this is what I got: "Like something exciting or crazy just happened that made you so shocked that your wig flew off so in short: wig!"

Emmy

I really liked Loco, but I also loved Dalla Dalla so we just have different tastes there. For me, I wasn't crazy about Mafia in the Morning but Loco kind of reminded me of older ITZY while also being different on its own; so to me, it did seem uniquely ITZY. The first time I heard Swipe, I was just listening to the album on my walk to work - so I actually didn't like Swipe at first, because I do think the video & choreography add a lot; now I like it more. My other favorites off this album are Sooo Lucky, Love Is, and Chillin Chillin. Regarding "wig" - I've heard "wig" used as slang in the gay/drag community before, as an exclamation to mean something like "that's great," "I like that" or whatever. It also probably has roots in AAVE. So like, technically they used the word correctly, but they probably shouldn't have used it since they are neither Black nor drag/ballroom performers.

Juliana Ferrari

Mirror is my favorite track on this album ❤

Malaki.H

boombox kinda reminds me of a meghan trainor song i thinks its me too

Malaki.H

doesnt chillin chillin sound like it could be a TXT song?

jessie

Loved watching this! Standing up gave your reactions even more energy and could see you enjoying the music better :)))

i was losing it at the wig wig part because SAME

Lavine Lee

I freaking love the stand up reaction!

Ioana C.

Tho I liked LOCO and loved SWIPE on the first listen, the album overall was warm to me at first. Now after the second and even third run through though, and because of your reactions PD, I feel like I love it :O

Winter

I have to comment on B[OO]M - BOXX cause woah. Okay so immediately it reminded me of two artists: LMFAO (the ending chorus of ‘Shots’ specifically) and Megan Trainer’s ‘Me Too’. It’s such a vibe and unexpected but amazing! If I had to nitpick, I really, REALLY liked the chorus, but I was secretly hopi they went more vocal heavy throughout the entire thing, kinda like what they did for wannabe. But the original chorus does follow the flow of the album and I don’t hate it at all! But if they were to go another route it would be more vocal heavy !

Incheonguy

Password? I thought this was the highest tier?

Incheonguy

wig wig is a hip hop term I have discovered that means "snatchin wigs" or "it was so dope, my wig flew off" So it does sound silly but it is supposed to be fans telling ITZY they (ITZY)are 'flexing' that's the gist of it. I had to look it up when I heard this song.

Incheonguy

Completely agree with your assessment. My favorite song is Love is. I also love Mirror. Personally while #Twenty is fire, I thought Yuna's rap on Gas me up was more of a lyrical flex of attitude with the message. You are 100% right about Yeji, she has vocal talent and a great range. I loved your listening party. I will be checking the rest of the ITZY listens as well. Thank you.

It says I have to have a password to watch this video??

I know it's kinda funny but B[OO]M - BOXX reminded me of Spooky Scary Skeletons XD.

Watching this again after the #twenty m/v release, PD got his wish XD
