it feels so strange listening to you talk about the ptg x onf performance, since it actually is one of my 3 faves of the whole show! Edit: I do however agree with you on that the Heroine performance was (to me, soo much) better than the On one

I totally agreed with your rankings. I kinda felt that the top two ranks for the collab were placed like that not just because of their great performances perhaps maybe bias from the songs they chose and also I always feel like the knetizens don't like performances that have an emotional element to it like Jinho's sending off performance ranked low as well. The Boyz x Oneus collab was so well-rounded and special to all the idols, even lots of the Boyz members cried after the performance like Q was cried so much after cause it was so special to him; I personally felt it deserved first place.

formoftherapy

I think even if you took the meaningful note out, it still hit better than the other two. Like with Jinho’s goodbye I won’t say something’s a winner because it was emotional but this was good and still hit harder even though it was!

BaoziBang

My Ranking was PentagONF The Boyz X Oneus Verivery X TOO

Sakura

ONF was my favorite group in RTK but I thought Kill this love was a little bit boring since I was waiting for a drop that never happened and the performance was flat. I really love them but I felt they won because of who they are not because of the performance and that made me really sad (the aesthetic was impressive tho). The boyz performance was meaningful and energetic and they being last made me cry more than the perfromance itself. Second place was an option but third?????? I don't get it. I agreed more or less with the ranking during the program and I could understand the results but this was... I just don't get it. ANYWAY, from the start of the show I wished one of the challenges was Queens of kpop songs and this episode was half my fantasy ;)

Han Taub

I largely agreed with you - for me, onf/ptg and oneus/tbz were neck and neck, in that I think they both nailed the theatricality and storytelling that has defined the performances that have ranked highest on this show so far. Too/vvr certainly nailed the spectacle element, but at this point military realism is a concept that has been done so many times that without a compelling story, it's not enough to win on its own. I think that something RTK is beginning to prove for me is that spectacle without intentionality is beginning to lose its shine in k-pop stages, and that we've hit a breaking point where creativity and innovation in storytelling are taking over pure spectacle.

s3nsi

Well for me the ranking would have been 1. The Boyz / ONEUS - Heroine 2. Pentagon / ONF - Kill this Love 3. VeryVery / TOO - ON. I loved the Heroine performance, it's probably my favorite from this show and I was also very disappointed with the rankings. I can see KTL beating it but not ON. I love the original ON by BTS but I didn't really like the arangements they did to the song for their performance. All in all it's the same as in Queendom when Minnie / Hyejeong - Instagram got 3rd place when it was the best duo performance imho.

Ana Rodriguez

I totally agree with your ranking and the things you pointed out, from their teamwork, the song mixing and the stage setup, I thought it was perfect it conveied the feeling from the original song perfectly and painted the picture of the journey from beeing a trainee to becoming an idol, to what I think all of the other groups could relate a lot. But maybe the audience don't really like the "sotry-telling-kind" of performances, or at least they prefere maybe the more sensual or powerfull ones? I could also imagine, that the song choice had an impact on the rankings, like "On" from BTS and "Kill this love" from Blackpink are obviously very known and have a huge fanbase behind them. I really don't know if the fan votes outweighed it so much that it came to these rankings or what exactly happend...

Iris

Actually many fans analyzed the ranking results and this is what most people agree on for the outcomes: First of all this time the voting includes your own group, and the online audience were selected from each fan base; so it’s hard to say that the votes aren’t biased to your own group;and with that in mind: The rankings of the three groups before; Pentagon/onf:2/3 The boyz/oneus:/1/4 Verivery/too:5/6 Pentagon and onf ‘s goal is to beat the boyz, and for them to win the boyz, putting themselves first and the boyz last will get them a score gap of 4000(putting them 2will only be 2000,which the boyz will still have most accumulated scores) And for verivery and too,the last three ranking groups’scores are so close that it’s reasonable for them to give oneus last; because they all have the risk of being eliminated. So as a result, it is reasonable for all of them to put the boyz and oneus last And also if the boyz kept getting first place, the following episodes will lose the tension of who is wining so is natural to balance the top three groups score to make the show more exciting But regardless ,all of them did a good job,the rest of the ranking further in the show are fine for me.

Hey PD, re: HQ versions this is where I grab variety stuff: https://goplay.anontpp.com/ Enter the key KDRAMA2020 Then just pick generate access token or login with reddit. Think you have to re-login every couple days with the token option as it expires. Streaming's straightforward, but if you want to download stuff from there I recommend joining their discord (link at the top of the homepage after you login) and there's a tutorial for setting it up.

Christian Oettl

I feel like because The Boys had a target on their back so they got voted last so that the other groups had more chances and that worked against Oneus too unfortunately. In my opinion their performance was the best. But from the start there were points were it would be interesting to know how different a live audience would've voted.

Jasmin Ridgeway

Think The BOYZ+ONEUS was definitely number one, Pentagon+ONF was second and Verivery+TOO was third. I saw the result for this episode when it came out and I’m still not over the ranking for this episode. I don’t understand how the BOYZ and ONEUS could have ranked below the others, i can kind of get the PTG+ONF one being first but defo not VV+TOO.

Karina Kim

In my case i totally agree with the rankings for me pentagon and onf were the best performance and very different from anything else in the show.

Ty

I feel that the rankings were spot on. I really really enjoyed Just On's version of Kill This Love. I think the slower tempo really allowed the voices of the members to shine. Like you've been saying Hui and Hyojin have two of the best voices in the competition, so having show that off was great. Even though they didn't have the craziest of coreo's I didn't think it needed it since the vocals were so strong. With The Boyz x Oneus it was a very emotional and sentimental performance for them and the other groups because they have been through the Traniee program. But when they are trying to appeal to the online audience, which is a majority of the vote, they probably didn't relate as much. I feel like this is a similar situation to Pentagon in the second round where they went for a more emotional performance and didn't rank as high. I can definitely see both sides of the argument. It is just what ever the online viewer took as a more important factor into their vote, whether that be the coreo, the vocals, or the meaning behind the performance.

Syazraid Aidil

There were speculations that The Boyz+ONEUS won the collab performance, however Mnet decided against announcing such a result so as to create drama and excitement in the show - essentially, not to make it “predictable and boring”. An intention to spark flames and get the masses riled up, so to speak. but hey, they could simply be, groundless rumours🤷🏻‍♂️ :/

Thilde

The Heroine stage was one of my favorites of the entire show so I was really disappointed when it ranked 3rd

kaylee zhu

my ranking was 1.heroine 2.on 3. kill this love i just think that overall heroine could be in my top3 favorites because of their delivery of the message and energy as well as how they showcased both groups vocal, rapping, and dancing talents. the boyz also mentioned how they didn’t want to change up the songs they covered too much kind of as respect to the artist i think it to keep the artist’s touch on it, i really liked that! it also got me even more excited to watch tbz and onf next performances. on was good as well i think it was a huge step up from what both groups have done and it showed their unity really well. Honestly, it made me feel excited to watch it as the performance went on and i was impressed by both groups! kill this love i probably have not watched it since the live show, until now, but i didnt like the arrangement at all and it was good creativity-wise i just felt like it wasn’t pentagon and onf together it was more like, here is pentagon and here is onf. some parts were thrilling but i don’t think it was very cohesive. i think the best part of this was hyojin’s vocals, he really stands out to me. but for ptg, i preferred the first half of their performance last round!

formoftherapy

Right. I feel like it wasn’t necessarily rigged but it also wasn’t voted based on the best stage but rather to bring The Boyz down a notch

Emma West

When I first watched it when it aired I was so shocked that TOO X VeriVery got second over The Boyz X ONEUS. I understood PTG X ONF getting first due to the fan voting and the idol votes. But I was seriously as surprised as you were. However I think survival came into play on the idol voting side. At the beginning of this specific competition last episode they were talking about tactics because if I am not wrong, the idols got to vote for themselves in this round. Compared to previous rounds where they could only vote for the other teams leaving themselves out. I also think that the voting of the lower three teams might have changed the actual ranking because it was literally a fight to survive. The points in the bottom three were very close together and whoever was then put at the bottom had a higher chance of getting eliminated. Then again, I could be wrong!

Holly

i agree with you, i felt so much emotion during tbz/oneus's performance, heroine was such a good song choice, it has such an uplifting feeling and i almost cried during the fanchant part :(( in a vlive after this Q from the boyz said that this was the most fun he's ever had on stage, you can see how big he's smiling in the dance break! jacob from tbz said he cried watching Q cuz he could tell how genuinely happy he was :) i loved that performance so so much- it's actually probably one of my faves on the show! you could see how much fun everyone was having, they were smiling so much im so soft for them

PureENT TM

It’s the face PD made after the results for the first round was announce 😂 I had the same reaction! Like wtf.

Aurayaya

I have to agree with you. This is by far the most controversial ranking yet. For me, This performance from The Boyz and ONEUS was the most memorable and emotionally moving performance I have experienced in a good amount of time. Even now I'm watching and listening to their performance almost on a daily basis because this cover/performance really moves me from the bottom of my heart. When I found out, that they were going to perform Heroine by Sunmi I was just as hyped as you were. So with that said, I was really disappointed with the rankings of this round. This performance made me really emotional and I still not understand why it was placed last. :/ I'm not going to say that the other groups didn't deserve their placement but you know, the boyz and ONEUS did such a phenomenal job. For me this was (from a personal standpoint) by far the best performance of this show.

Anonymous

You're definitely not alone. I think TBZ/Oneus' performance was the most dynamic, the most meaningful, and the most creative. PTG/ONF was good, I like the arrangement of the song and the interpretation of the lyrics but it just didn't have as much of an emphasis on the collaboration aspect. And Verivery/TOO was really good but it just didn't have that certain something for me.

Diana Montaño

I actually don´t mind the ranking on the how, i do keep Pentagon/ONF on first because every performance on the show so far has been intense and similar in a way, this felt like something different and the arrangement was good and theire voices too, i do agree on the teamwork thing but i still put them first. Now for second place i loved both, yes The Boyz/Oneus was better produced but it was a little to much for me, to much props its perfect for a musical (and i LOVE musicals) but you can have a teatrical feeling without having the whole theater on stage and the dancing break was awesome. As for TOO/Veivery, i personally just for some reason enjoyed more i felt more engaged with that performance how they manage to make it work with so much people and the dacing was perfect.

Holly

also, for the Your Song part, it wasn't that the groups originally picked the songs for themselves and the songs got switched, the groups picked out a song knowing it would go to another team, but they didn't know which other team until the filming day! (at least im pretty sure thats what happened)

Quil

I completely agree with your ranking. I think what happened was because of strategy. I'm not saying there were any ill intentions, but I do think trying to save your own group (as fans, mostly) will give you this type of biased results that somehow (to me) don't add up to the performances we saw.

DavidEE

I personally thought Pentagon and ONF drifted to far apart from the original song. I know it's a performance, but musically it doesn't sound good at all. It was a beautiful performance though. The boyz and Oneus did everything right but got nothing to pay for it. Beautiful song with a deep meaning in performance and lyrics. Its hilarious that they placed 3rd its actually ridiculous. There has to have been some behind the scenes stuff that counted them out. Completely unbiased opinion, just thought I would share.

M.C.

I loved all the performances this episode so much. For the pair ranking part I loved all the performances, but I was shocked that heroine placed last too. I think TOO and Verivery may have voted for themselves, because the voting rules for this round changed so you can include your own team. I think it was Minchan that brought it up and Dongheon said it would be alright if they voted for themselves cause they could. TOO and Verivery being the bottom 2 would make sense that they voted for themselves so they wouldn't get eliminated, especially since they are on the same team. I think kill this love had the best arrangement cause it was transformative and I liked the arrangement the best. I think their voices we're also very dynamic here. Heroine hit me emotionally and made me tear up. Heroine is my favorite female soloist song as well. Another reason I can think of why it didn't place as high is that the first half didn't have that much choreography, where as KTL and On did. It focused a lot on the story, which was a good story, but there was multiple parts of standing and siting. I think their performance of heroine really works and was amazing, but maybe those where some thought while voting? It was very theatrical, which the boys have been doing so far and the story is immediately recognizeable too. On was on a grand scale, so it had that wow factor. They had to make 17 people plus backup dancers work together. I still think they could of told the story better in a way that would of better incorporated the amount of members, but I loved it nevertheless.

Caitlin

I honestly think the collab rankings had nothing to do with the performances...the boyz had a target on their backs and everyone wanted to beat them

M.C.

Also On is by BTS, so if some of the online voters were army, they may of voted for that

Anonymous

While I was first watching this episode of RTK, I too was shocked that TBZ X ONEUS placed third in the collaboration round. Personally, I can understand why PTG X ONF got first place. They created a memorable stage and the song arrangement was also very “eye-catching” so to say, so it’s a well-deserved first place. However, I think that, looking at the performances overall, TBZ X ONEUS should’ve gotten first place. Their performance was just that: a performance. VV X TOO too me was a little lacking in terms of creativity (which was kind of expected when making a performance with that many members) and PTG X ONF seemed like something that could well be a special stage at an award show or music show. Even though I was biased towards ONF while first watching it, I thought that TBZ X ONEUS’s overall story line and message came across the best and I loved their rendition of Heroine as well! What I think happened is that - because it was allowed in that specific round - VV X TOO voted for themselves. I’m not pointing fingers here, but I think that would make the most sense survivability-wise. It was a smart decision on their end and clearly worked out well for them, so they can’t really be blamed for doing what gives them the best chances at survival. Now, I could be totally wrong with my assumptions here, but I think that is what happened here, especially because you could actually see during the episode that the performance of The Boyz and ONEUS touched all of them in their expressions. It was an unfortunate result, but I think the desperation of the competition is to be blamed for it.

Thilde

Kind of a fun coincidence: The girl that played Juliet in ONEUS' Be Mine performance is a Japanese member of RBW's upcoming girl group. And it just so happens that her debut trailer was uploaded today! She's a great rapper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k15XyaoIP0E

Jay

I think now's the time to watch Queendom. There were lots of amazing performances that you would LOVE.

Legacy

I can understand why PentagonxONF and VERIVERYxTOO ranked higher than The Boyz. From and audiences point of view which is what the majority of the votes were based on. Especially if online viewers voted as well the camera work and the large group dances. Visually looked incredible. PxO, completely reinvented KTL, the arrangement alone won for me. But I agree with PD I ranked it; TheBoyzxONEUS then PentagonxTOO then VERIVERYxTOO.

stygianlyre

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I do think that Kill This Love was my favorite performance of the collaboration round. To me, it didn't seem like their teams were one unit either, necessarily, but I think each member stood out individually, rather than this looking more like "here is Pentagon and here is ONF". I thought that the arrangement of KTL was really clever actually, in terms of the way it paced itself/built (not to a drop but to false drops and then deeper emotionally arranged instruments, which fits so well with the lyrics of the song and the intentions of the performance) and the way they contrasted all of the members that they chose to use. (Which also maybe contributes itself to your feeling of lack of cohesion, because the ONF members and the PTG members were, for a lot of this performance, in direct comparison to each other? ie. Wyatt/Wooseok, Kino/J-Us, Hyojin/Hui) Personally, one of my favorite things that kpop groups do is emphasize vocal contrast, and Hui did an excellent job of assigning parts to maximize that, which I think made for a really cool performance that stood out a lot to me. Also, in terms of the ranking, I don't agree with TBZ/ONEUS being last, but I didn't think it was a huge surprise, after my initial shock at the ranking? Throughout this show, the meaningful/emotional/classier performances were downvoted by the audience vote as well as by the other groups. While their performance was by far more emotional then any of GolCha's were, I think they fell victim to a lot of the same elements that GolCha's performances did here, wherein the performance was beautiful (and emotionally stunning) but people didn't vote for it. I think that ONF/PTG and TOO/VV's performances definitely had the "shock" factor that contributes to a lot of people voting for them, as well as the fact that the teams were able to vote for themselves this time when they haven't before. So, I don't think it was overly surprising that, once again, the meaningful and emotionally strongest performance was voted lower, even though I didn't agree with it.

excellen

But PD already watched Queendom last year. All the videos are here on Patreon.

Lukáš Glumbik

I, apparently like everyone else :D, think that The Boyz and ONEUS's performance was the best. Like...hands down. The arrangement, the sound, they said they won't focus on the performance much and then they pulled a beautiful one, yeah they won in my book. Pentagon and ONF were great but I can't help but feel a little...dissapointed with the song. Don't get me wrong, the performance man, BEAUTIFUL but the song felt like...it had kind of lacklustre parts. Verivery and TOO were amazing and showed what they CAN do, i really like their performance but "Heroine" made forget about all of it. But I also appreciate the motivation that this gives to the other groups (namely Verivery and TOO). Just imagine if those two got last again. It would be so demotivating, whatever they do, they get last so I like this aspect of it. HOWEVER if we talkin' rankings, The Boyz and ONEUS #1, 100%.

Chloe Borley-Evans

I physically cannot watch the Heroine stage with AT LEAST tearing up. I appreciate others opinions and also how hard every group worked but at the end of the day I was and still am utterly confused that The Boyz and Oneus came last. My rank was the same as yours PD. I really enjoyed the Kill this love performance dont get me wrong but how tf could you beat that Heroine stage? You just can't. I'm not even an idol and that shit hurt me. I don't even think you need to be in the same situation or profession to understand hardships like that so I disgaree when people say 'fans couldn't relate' cause yeah I guess they can't relate fully but in some ways tons of people can. That Heroine performance was a fuckin 10/10 for me and it genuinely holds a special place in my heart. Legendary stage (Also I'm glad you like Q cause he literally is the cutest person ever and his fuckin huge smile through the Heroine performance makes me wanna cry) It's quite a shame with TOOs performance of Hard Carry cause the energy wasn't quite there on stage but if you watched their dance practice video of it, It's so much better! I don't know what happened for it to go differently on stage but otherwise I acc enjoyed their rearrangement more than the original song.

shivan lachman

I agree with PTGxONF being first because it was an unexpected and theatrical performance. A big part of the show is re-arranging an already made song and the re-arrangement of Kill This Love was the most unique and they flipped the original track in a whole different direction. BOYZxONEUS def deserved second. My theory is that the whole point of the collab section is teamwork and unity and the verivery and too demonstrated immense unity and formation and they didnt look like two different groups at all.

excellen

Reposting because Patreon deleted my super long post goddammit! My opinion will probably be the outlier here...I didn't find any of the collabs mind blowing or impressive. Don't get me wrong...I liked all the performances, there wasn't any performance that was bad. But none of them really wowed me. I have my own reasons for it: 1) I'm not really attached to any of the songs performed and didn't really find any of the songs arrangements super impressive...even KTL 2) I was excited that the collabs this time would be with the whole group unlike Queendom when they paired the vocalists and dancers. But in the end I was kind of let down by all of the performances because I expected more. I know they had very little time to prepare but even so 3) I was still bitter about Golcha's elimination so I didn't care much for the perfomances this round overall (this was my biased reason so it's none of the groups fault). The only performance that wowed me this episode (and made forget my bitterness) was ONF's It's Raining. It became one of my most rewatched Road To Kingdom performances of all and it was the performance that finally made ONF click with me as a group to follow after the show like Golcha's T.O.P performance. Oh...and about the weird rankings and stuff...this is Mnet. You should just expect foul play from the get go if rankings with voting are involved. Did they do it for this round or for rounds before? We don't know and we will probably never know. But I personally don't trust the rankings for this since round 1 cause I feel they will adjust what they want to make it more interesting or create tension. And even so the ratings overall were below expectations so I fear for what they are going to do on Kingdom to create drama.

Aurayaya

I can't wait to see your reaction to the remaining episodes. Looking forward and I'm glad the long format content is slowly coming back! :]

Anonymous

I will never understand why performances labeled "emotional" are often automatically outranked by ones labeled as "intense." Personally I will always prefer a stage that hits me in the feels over one that is more technically intense. So while I liked all three collab stages I preferred Oneus and The Boyz by a mile. I have probably re watched their Heroin stage thirty times by now, and yet it never loses its potency. Having finished the show it remains in my top three performances overall.

rockthekazb0t

I agree with your rankings, I am admittedly biased in song choice as I like Heroine above the other songs, but the emotional resonance of TBZ x Oneus's collab still hits me even now, and I watched everything when it first came out! It was touching, storyline instantly understood and relatable even if you're not in the entertainment industry. The basic struggle everyone goes through in attempt to rise to the top of their field.. Is kinda universal I think.

Ugne Jablonskyte

The part with got7 made me miss your reactions to them. I hope you will find time to watch some variety shows with them like weekly idol or whatever you want. Also, we all know that BamBam is a fashion king, so sometimes he wears questionable outfits, but in not by the moon era his whole look was one of my fave. The ones you saw were definitely not the best ones, but you need to see got7's album photos and other not by the moon live performances where BamBam looks like from a fantasy movie. He looked unreal.

mick mick mick

my whole opinions on the collab round voting was that the SUDDEN allowance of being able to vote for themselves and the... lovely mnet editing of the other teams existing in “destroy the boyz we must dethrone the boyz.” headspace. overall, tomoons and deobi KNOW that oneboyz were first place in our hearts and it’s... frustrating. that everything was so caught up in the “best the boyz” agenda that they completely just threw all of that hard work away. idk. i’ve been stewing on this since this stage (which, changmin’s ((Q)) smile the entire time really sealed the deal on me stanning tbz) and i will ALWAYS preach heroine best cover stage. i personally think ONF’s parts of the ktl stage were the best, and the too x verivery stage left me wanting more as well. this whole round was a shit show but ig its not very fun if tbz win everything !

Mesha ✌︎

the quality when the performance are on is a bit bad :(

epichugger

i liked pentagon and onf's more because of the concept and how they arranged the song. I honestly think people didn't vote for the boyz x oneus that much because they can't relate to the idol life or mnet put them last place on purpose for the drama. i mean they're known for rigging votes.

Bryn

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW BRIGHT Q'S SMILE IS IN THE COLLAB PERFORMANCE?!?!?! You should really check out the performance on YouTube, the quality is much better. I smile every time I see this performance because you can tell how much the members are enjoying themselves

Bryn

Anyway...I do agree with you completely, but I can see how the rankings went the way they did. THE BOYZ and ONEUS was amazing and so touching, but I think their performance is really only as touching if you're able to get into the shoes of the idols. If someone is just a casual fan of Kpop, or just a hardcore stan of one group, I don't think they would see the impact of the Heroine performance, or be able to appreciate the story of their stage. I so wish this song was available for download because I would for sure listen to Heroine on repeat

Omayma

I totally agree with this ranking personally . The one that made me mad the most is the next one... we'll see if you agree... but yeah... the next's round ranking bruh. Wtf.

SanjA1800

Hearing your thoughts on performances like these is the reason I upgraded to Summer tier. As a video producer, you have a very objective way of judging things so watching the stages the second time through with these reaction videos made me appreciate The Boyz X Oneus performance even more. It really was THAT beautiful. But that being said I did also really like the Pentagon X ONF one as well (I've gone back to watch the full version again a few times on Youtube because it stayed with me). But I can't say I'm not a little biased. It's just a style I really like dark and eerie with the haunting vocal performances by Hui and Hyojin also Wooseok's rap. I loved it. The TOO x VeriVery performance was good and I'm glad they managed to pull it off with so many members but RTK has seen so many intense hard-hitting choreo driven performances that it wasn't anything groundbreaking. The first time watching it I thought the same thing as you, I wish they had been a little more creative with the concept (It sounded great when Chan was explaining it).

Anastasija

For me The Boyz/ONEUS and ptg/onf were equal first because both performances invoked such a different reaction from me. I absolutely adored both performances for very different reasons and I think that they were just so so different that ranking them is really difficult. So honestly I would have been happy with either of them getting first place out of the two. However I very much think Too/verivery should have been third because I just didn't really feel that attached to that performance...it was great don't get me wrong, but that's all it was. Just great. It didn't leave a lasting impression on me and for me personally it was somewhat forgettable amongst all the other performances we've had in the show.

Kpop_Platypus

My collab ranking would've been 1. TBZxONS, 2. VVxTOO, 3. PTGxONF, and I admit it's totally biased. Heroine was one of my favorite performances of the entire show; it was such a creative, moving, & overall well done performance. Personally, I haven't yet heard a version of Kill This Love that I like - that's not hate against BP or PTGxONF, the song just doesn't do it for me in any arrangement I've heard so far - and I agree w/ PD that their cohesion & incorporation could've used more work. As a side note, I get the urge to listen to ONF's It's Raining whenever it's raining now. 😅 That was a fantastic performance.

Musically_Tea

Watching these performances again I definetly agree that The Boyz 7 Oneus should've got higher I'm torn between them ranking 1st or 2nd and the others are a tie for me as well with 2nd and third. These were all very good performances but I don't think The Boyz and Oneus deserved that low of a rank especially after listening to your take on the stage teamwork viewpoint. They work amazing together and blended so well on stage. After watching these shows it's become known to me that emotional performances no matter how captivating they are don't rank well compared to intense hype stages, no matter how much I disagree. It's really disappointing.

Sher

TBZ and Oneus were my favorite groups coming into RTK, and their *song* was my favorite of the collabs. The vocalists sounded AMAZING together and I get chills every time the fan chants come in. But if I'm really honest, I would've ranked it second and PTG/ONF first, because as an overall performance, KTL was the one that stuck with me and the one I keep going back to rewatch. Musical theatery choreos with very literal storytelling are pretty hit or miss for me and don't tend to have the same impact on me, which I think was the key difference. But they were objectively great, and I was surprised they ranked third. (and note for groups on kingdom: if rtk is any indication, you should probably stick to intense and dark concepts if you want to win...)

Falco

It's interesting to see how you ranked the collaboration performances. For me, the RTK ranking was actually exactly what I felt. The reason being that just like you felt something missing from Pentagon + ONFs performance I felt that with the boyz. It might be because I am a heavily acting and vocally focused person, but also I absolutely adore this rearrangement of kill this love!! For me it was just right! I loved the theatrical aspects of it and I felt that they really made the story come alive with the way they sang and acted it out. Also I'm disappointed at the moment because kpop seems to focus too much on dancing skills and less on actual singing and portraying emotions and I always feel that the boyz just aren't very strong when it comes to vocals. TOO and Veriverys performance impressed me with the sheer number of people working together and they have some really strong vocalists too, so in the end the boyzs performance didn't have enough ability to portray what they were trying to, for me. It just seemed sweet but missed the "umph" factor. PTG+ONF had that for me. The way Hui started off the song gave me chills, the rap verses (especially Wooseoks) were so good, Hyojins voice is always so strong and the way they moved was wild and lost but steady at the same time. it felt like being in wonderland with a dark twist and made me hold my breath. So yeah, that's my reasoning, but in the end it really comes down to preferences and I have to admit that something about the boyz just never sits right with me, but I love Oneus! on the other hand Pentagon are my Ults and ONF are one of my favorites too, but that's not the reason I liked their performance the best, it is because of the arrangement, the fact that I FELT everything they sang and said and the way they expressed everything with their souls.

I feel like either the song choices (BTS and Blackpink vs Sunmi) had to affect the votes, or people voted with their feeling or based on some specific aspect of the performances. I think there is no way that an objective vote based on the overall performance would have given these results. The performance of the boyz and Oneus just was superior as a whole. But then again, the vote obviously isn't professional or objective, it's based on personal feelings. Would be interesting (and fair too since there are eliminations, potentially affecting in some way the careers of these groups) for the voting to be done by a team of professionals, or at least have them as a part of the voting

希文 王

I don't really have a ranking, but I feel like what lacked in this perf. of ONF and Pentagon's was what ONF had in their Everybody perf., which is also what PD mentioned in ONEUS and The Boyz's, that it gradually built up and everything paid off

Ally Gichan

I will tell you my opinion, I do agree with you 100% what makes things more weird and sus is that the points system for this round! when its usually a % of the votes where #1 get 10k points and they built on it... here the gap between the 3 collabs is 2k each 1st gets 5k 2nd 3k and 3rd 4k... and how convienent it is that the gap between the boyz and 2nd place is a bit below 4k..... so what I think is that mnet thinks the show is alittle bit boring with only 1 team getting 1st constantly and wanted to make drama and intensity .... and honestly the boyz are my biases so idc if I'm biased or not but those are facts... ptg and onf performance lacked alot on the creativity side from a side it felt all over the place and other side it really used recycled moves, like when kino was pulled back like when in vrv photo stage the dude was pulled back and the girl disappeared well the crown disappeared at the end of tbz stage too etc second thing is the use of dancers... like if you notice in tbz performances the boyz themselves do the main moves and stunts while in other perfs only dancers seem to do it..... for vrv and TOO I liked their stage more the ptg and onf... but what they lacked is a solid storyline... they had cool synchronized moves... but their lack of experience actually showed too but I really appreciate that 1 year group did this amazing so taking that into consideration I appreciate them alot....... for tbz and oneus you already said it all... but one thing ig you missed when the cheering was on... sunwoo and ravn were backstage... sunwoo encouraged ravn to go to the stage and sunwoo stayed backstage... they said it means alot of things (could be 1-goldenchid after elimination 2- when your member injured so they cant perform 3- when your member leave group which is happened to most groups here OR your trainee friends couldnt debut with you) so it holds alot more meanings

希文 王

also to add on to my own comment, I agree with what a lot of people said, the show's not necessarily rigged, but I think bc they could vote for themselves, vv and too probably all voted for their own team to not get eliminated, and that's why the ranking is so weird

My thoughts on the ranking were the same. I've been routing for Pentagon throughout the entire show so far and I can acknowledge that The Boyz creativity & talent is at an incredibly high level (I was so overwhelmed with emotions that I actually teared up). To me, The Boyz & Oneus were the clear winners and I genuinely feel that the show didn't want to see them win for the 4th time in a row, so there would be a big "plot twist". As far as TOO & VeriVery idk, they're the underdogs of. a show about underdogs but I just feel that their performance wasn't as strong as the others. I'm usually not really a big fan of dubstep dance breaks and I felt that a lot with their performance. But I am happy with Pentagon & ONF winning esp bc Pentagon I feel have always been stuck in the middle rankings both in this show and Kpop in general.

here my opinions on the ranking honestly I’m not sure if this is way ranking where how they was . 1. Pentagon / ONF performances . Could have gotten first because Pentagon has more fans then most of group since they been around long then most of the group . Plus both teams been around longer.I thought the vocals and hui production of the song was very haunting , plus this performance to me shocked me the most when first watch it I had my mouth drop the whole performance . I like story they where portraying and end of song where girl disappeared that was really cool. Plus could he popularity of the song performed. 2.Verivery & Too - I think personally I could be because song form a very popular group internationally. It was very intense Performance and love opening dance to the performance. The vocals where good in the song as well and love the story of like going to war , like really fits the theme of the song overall. Plus the team work was amazing plus both bottom groups really showed they wanted to win this round. Only thing really didn’t like about was bridge ? Part like where Jungkook hit high notes just kind wished gut who sung it , I forgot who did it wished he sung high note even tho it did feel like the own instead just copying the original. 3. The Boyz & OneUs - I think got last place because it wasn’t big/ flashy like the other groups but out . To me I felt like song/ story to me felt a little to safe then trying to win. Yes I like overall they had best message compared the groups and rap / vocals where amazing . I did cry when first watched during fan chanting / names of the other groups. It felt more of a tribute to other groups kinda of like one Pentagon did for Jihno going to military they wasn’t doing to win ..they did as like that last performance they going perform with him. That’s somewhat what felt with the song . Plus I think bc it was going along with what the boyz and oneus did in their other performances could be why . Sorry for being long post 🥺 but love all these groups equally!💜❤️

1. I can't believe I didn't get a notif for this upload so I am late 2. PD's reactions to TBZ x Oneus' performance and the rankings was exactly me. I was amazed and then just confused 3. My rankings: 1. TBZ x Oneus - regardless of the emotional aspect of the performance, The Boyz have shown themselves to be masters at storytelling and they did the exact same thing here. The journey that the viewer went though; pre debut, auditions, training and then the final debut as well as the hurdles that a team goes through on the idol journey, it was exquisite, and as PD said they were a team and cohesive and it just worked. 2. Pentagon x ONF - it was theatrical and awesome to look at and I actually liked the song arrangement but I didn't feel like the performance flowed very well and it was disconnected. I was expecting more on that level. 3. TOO x Verivery - I just don't think they did justice to the original song. Anyways 2 episodes to go. Can't wait for your reactions PD coz there is a lot more coming

unrelated to the rankings themselves but fan voting really skewed the results in some of the rounds (especially round 2 and 3) the contestants themselves would vote performances really high, but due to the fan voting, that would lower the score of these 'high ranked performances' (ex: contestants voted pentagon overall as 2nd in round 2 with shine + spring snow, but due to the addition of fanvoting they placed 5th that round overall)

Hal

I agreed with your rankings for the most part. Though the PentagONF performance was fully above TOOVery for me. But Heroine was something special. It was honestly my favorite performance from the entire show. I couldn't understand how it got last place. Enough time has passed since this episode aired and the show results were finalized, that I've sort of accepted it. But it was nice to hear that it impacted you in the same ways it impacted me. Certainly made me feel less alone in my stance.

Hal

Also, wanted to clear up a common misconception I've noticed with the 3rd round. The groups were asked to pick a song they'd like to see one of the other groups perform; they weren't picking for themselves. They just didn't know which group would have to perform it. (So when ONEUS picked Shangri La, they weren't picking it for themselves)

Irie

Personally this is my ranking for the collaboration round: 1st place: The Boyz & Oneus. Their stage was just unbelievably moving and so well produced. The message, storyline, and their overall performance truly captivated me the whole time and I feel like they deserved a better ranking than last place. 2nd place: Too & Verivery. The synergy and teamwork I felt from the maknaes teams of the show was unmatched for me. They came to kill, and I feel like they delivered. Also, tackling such an iconic song from an iconic group like BTS was a big risk to take, but I feel did they did the song justice and then some. 3rd place: Pentagon & ONF. Like you said PD, the arrangement and their individual moments/talents were incredible because both groups are amazing themselves. However, for some reason, something felt missing and I think the unity piece between Pentagon and ONF might have been the reason for that. Overall, all the groups worked so hard and they all put out fantastic performances... but in the end I still felt troubled by the end results.

Kasey

Honestly I would put kill this love last. I know that this is controversial but while I love Pentagon’s original songs and I love Pentagon something about how Hui rearranges covers sometimes irks me. As a huge BBC I felt like Very Good underemphasized certain killing parts and replaced them with aspects that just made me miss the original song. Yes they got the playful tone but they still somehow both took it too seriously and didn’t amp it up enough to the effect of the original, I was very disappointed in that one. With Kill this love I felt like I initially liked where it was going but it was too slow and I know Pentagon can do that demonic/psychotic thing since we have seen them pull it off and didn’t need to for this performance, it was overkill and underwhelming. I didn’t like the arrangement, it was definitely acted out well but there was no cohesion or notable evidence of collaboration other than members of both groups sharing the stage. I love dark concepts but it was almost too dark and almost hard to focus on. Just my opinion though. Heroine was memorable and just incredible. I thought TOO and Verivery did very well also I agree Just ON was “technically” better than On but it just missed the mark completely for me.

Maca

my rank is 1st place: the boyz & oneus. 2nd and 3rd seem so far behind that performance to me. i don't know what the online voters were thinking. it's totally possible the network rigged it to make it more dramatic with oneus vs. too at the bottom.

Nicolette Starliight

I was so upset when oneus and the boyz didn't get first or at least second it was so incredible, impactful, unforgettable, and one of my favorite performances from Road to Kingdom. I don't remember correctly if it was this round or part 2 of this round but they were allowed to vote for themselves so I have a feeling that verivery might have all voted for themselves since they have talked a few times about how much they wanted to avoid getting low rankings. But also it could be possible by the fact that they were Blackpink and BTS songs they choose to remake that got them their higher scores due to online voting and them choosing popular songs {Kill this Love and On}.

hayden

I thought the boyz and oneus were going to get 1st, I was 100% sure. I was shocked when I saw onf and pentagon take first and confused when the boyz and oneus lost 2nd place to too and verivery. When i rewatch all 3 performances I can't for the life of me figure out how the boyz and oneus didn't get 1st, let alone last, I honestly can't understand why.. The first thing that came to mind was they were trying to balance out the scores so everyone has a more fair playing ground, but pentagon and onf wouldn't have won if that were the case, and I can't see that happening on an elimination show anyways. I didn't agree with golden child being eliminated either, since I had thought they should have placed just one higher on the 1st and 2nd round individually, but then again, these are all just my opinions, obviously people had to have had different opinions on it if these were the scores anyways. Honestly, I think it's just that all elimination shows are rigged and it was for "drama" or whatever, but it would be so much more interesting if they had just left. Just my opinion tho

Di

My personal ranking: 1. ONEUS x The Boyz 2. Pentagon x ONF 3. TOO x Verivery I wasn't invested in any of these groups prior to the show. I honestly couldn't understand how the The Boyz and ONEUS weren't first either. I genuinely enjoyed watching Pentagon and ONF interact with each other. However, based on just the performances, I cannot agree with the rankings. To be fair, about how they edited these few episodes, to separate the collaborations and the next performances. In Queendom, I remember comments on YouTube about how people were outraged at the points/rankings for Round 3. However, a lot of people just didn't seem to understand, they automatically added the collaboration and individual performances points together. People were quite angry because they thought the points given were only based on the individual performances.

Maya

I thought oneus and the boyz should have gotten first place, their performance literally made me start tearing up and although I think the other groups did a really good job I think oneus and the boyz put on a performance that will stay with me and inspire me and others

Nikki Seguin

I truly believe TBZ/ONEUS should’ve placed first. I’m still baffled on how that performance came in last. I teared with their performance, it took me on a journey. I could feel the emotions that everyone of these idols has gone through to get where they are at. VeriVery/TOO deserved their second place spot. I could feel their desperation of an actual battle through their performance. Pentagon/ONF the arrangement of the song was good, but it lacked something. Same for their performance, it was good but it didn’t feel cohesive. It felt like segments mashes together to put something together.

Angel Burns

I competely agree with you. The Boyz and Oneus had something really special with their performance. I worry that they online viewers might have placed the Boyz last as a way to help their groups in the competition. I also wonder if they have international fans watching and voting who may not speak Korean and may not have understood the meaning behind their performance. (I don't know if they see the background to things or just the performance itself before they vote).

Christopher Smith

Pentagon/ONF is #1 for me for taking a song i disliked and thought was boring and making it 100 times better. Number 2 is def The Boyz/Oneus. I don't have to have the same emotional connection to enjoy the performance, but because of what it is, I can't rank it higher either.

Ena

I agree The Boyz/Oneus should've at LEAST gotten 2nd. It does make the show more interesting ranking wise for who will get eliminated and with The Boyz being last when they came 1st 3 times in a row. And knowing that it has stirred up the show and it's now unknown who will win, this does seem honestly kind of suspicious.

LivKO

I would be very interested to see how the other idols competing voted vs the fan online voting.

4 months late but straight up no to verivery x too... just seems so impossible to me at least

Melanie Williams

A little late but I thought that verivery and Too only beat The Boyz and Oneus because they did a BTS song that was really popular at the time of the competition. I can 100% understand and agree to some point why ONF and Pentagon won. The performance was good and the vocals were amazing. But Too and Verivery was just a good performance in my opinion and that was it.

myjelly

I am also late but The Boyz and Oneus should've gotten first place ngl. Their performance brought tears to my eyes!

JL

As with most of the comments, I agree with you PD. The Boyz and Oneus were robbed on this one. I am as unbiased as they come on this, as I don’t really stan any of these groups, and I was shocked and genuinely surprised by the rankings. The big thing that jumps out to me is that BTS and BP are obviously bigger names than Sunmi, and their fandoms are much bigger and are very well known for being super subjective. I don’t mean that in a bad way, I just can see plenty of blinks and army casting a vote, but probably couldn’t even tell you which team performed it. So while The Boyz and Oneus clearly won, the fan voting let them down.

yuyu

If someone sees this comment and its interested in the Oneus Perf. of Be mine i will leave a link of a video explaining all the story and details of Romeo and Juliet its really interesting to see how they told the story in their performance and you really enjoy it more after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofA9tzWVUl4&ab_channel=K

Malin Stalheim

Te Boyz X Oneus were so robbed in this round. Their whole performance from the meaning behind it to the stage, the creativity, the teamwork and the pure joy in their faces while doing it took my breath away. This stage will remain one of my favourites from the whole show and I'm so disappointed it placed last.

alyah

my opinion is that pentagon/ onf was a creative cover and too/verivery felt just like a normal cover (a very good cover but still just a cover) and the boyz/ oneus was a show. a true performance. creative props, creative stage direction, creative musical changes, amazing vocals, amazing dancing. this is my opinion.

I'm late but I wanted to voice my opinion too so: I'm currently watching Road to kingdom now here for a second time and so I see a lot of things less emotional and more rational. When I first watched rtk, I was totally okay with the collaboration ranking - I thought of rtk as a chance to bring out powerful, shocking performances and at that time I didn't have a lot of experience in kpop yet so powerful stages were the knes that most intrigued me. That's why I thought the ranking was super accurate, since the Boyz and oneus performance had actually "disappointed" me back then after their powerful "Lit" and "Reveal" performances. And since the voting was based on online voting, the outcome isn't actually that surprising because I now know that there were a looot of kpop fans out there who were like me at that time. That being said, I completely agree with you now 2 years later. The Boyz and oneus performance was INCREDIBLE, and they should have ranked first imo Just needed to leave this here because I understand the original ranking but also your pov Have a great day :)
