Wow. This was my first time watching right alongside with you guys and I'm so grateful you guys introduced me to this film. It was a beautiful film with an incredible story. I get anxious with foreign films as well so I likely never would have ventured to watch this on my own but damn has this opened up my horizons. It was like you said Roxy, I was so incredibly invested and completely forgot I was reading. I absolutely loved this film and immediately started doing research. Anyways, thanks for another great reaction. I hope you return with this duo for the sequels because I would love to watch along with you. You guys are a blessing. Take care 🖤

Great reaction! I haven't watched any of the other reactions Roxy has ended up doing with you guys, but I miss her in the Schmoedown and on SJU! One of my favorite things that this movie does is in the scene right after Ip fights the 10 guys. After dropping off the bloody rice too Liu's family, he talks with the former policeman/the interpreter. At the end of the conversation, as Ip is walking away, the interpreter yells "I AM A CHINESE MAN!" What almost no subtitles do, though, is discern when the language is Chinese or Japanese. When this line is said, he actually switches from Chinese to Japanese, which to me means that he's so deep in this betrayal of himself and his country that he sees himself as a Chinese man but can't even tell when he is speaking the enemy's language. They do another thing with language when the Japanese leader talks with Ip in the jail cell before their fight. This scene is a lot more clear about it, but neither person understands a word that the other is saying. They're reading the energy and facial expressions of the other man and the message gets across. Beautifully done storytelling in my opinion. I was so excited to see a reaction of this movie! Keep up the great work guys!
