Feel free to trash it (lol jokes) but uhhh yeah Jodie's run isn't the best. :( There are wild variations in the writing and acting quality. Still some good episodes to come, but to me it's a 70/30 ratio of bad to good. I don't think Chibnall was the right man for the task. Would of been interesting to see a female showrunner writing for Jodie though. I think a Woman's perspective would have been interesting, but essentially it's never addressed. Hope you both find enjoyment in it, as I never really could.

I totally get what Greg said. the chemistry and writing for Jodie's run are just...off. it gets better, but it always feels a bit like something is missing.

I really loved your opinions on this episode. (I will say, your guys' point about too much exposition... be prepared for that to be a consistent point.) This is a very interesting era to say the least, and no two people share the same view on it. Curious how the rest of this series goes for ya two!!

As someone who does love the entirety of Jodie’s run, I do get where Greg is coming from for the first episode. Her first episode, while a lot adore, wasn’t my absolute fave in her series 11, so imo there’s still a lot to enjoy. I think it’s important to note that this was supposed to be a soft reboot in my mind for a new audience to feel kind of not like they need to know this 1000+ history, especially with the first episode. In my mind, I love series 11 for what it was, but the later seasons are the stronger on Jodie’s run for sure. But the historical in Jodie’s era are phenomenal, so I can’t wait to see those reactions.

There are better episodes in this series for sure. But I think they all do have this clunky craftsmanship that reeks of less experience than we should expect from someone who's been in the industry for this length of time and has just been put in charge of a BBC flagship show. Lots of lazy and unimaginative ideas and shortcuts in the script's structures. Coupled with a lack of a defined identity and solid coherent direction. Overall the confusingly bizarre and sporadic treatment of character development is very frustrating. Something that is integral to any drama and was undeniably a defining component of each of the previous series. Arguably each series does get a little better. Just keep calling it as you see it. This is the first time I've only watched the highlights version. There is one episode in this series that is among my favourite episodes of the show.

I thought you guys would like this episode way more than you did XD Well I'm still not comfortable giving my thoughts on the era as a whole but I'm here for your guys' unfiltered thoughts.

Very much agree, not the strongest start but not the worst either, and yeah she does have arguably the best of at least the new who historical episodes. Similarly agree that overall series 11 is an okay series for me but season 12 is a lot better and then I adore season 13 and 2 of the 3 specials, for me season 11 is on par with 8 for me in that I don’t love it but I can happily watch it, 12 is like 2 or 7 in that I really enjoy it but it’s not up there with my favs and 13 is like 3,4 and 5 in that I have rewatched several times and they’re in my top seasons/episodes and Jodies last episode for me is on par with the 50th if not slightly higher 👌

I enjoyed your reaction and (genuinely) the thoughtful analysis at the end. I'm looking forward to rewatching Jodie's episodes with y'all (and to Rosie's facts).
