"Adapt or Die"  - aka Is this a mid-season finalé??  Kind feels like a mid-season finalé!

Episode Synopsis:  After blowing its cover and damaging the Zephyr in the process, the team must scramble to rescue Mack's parents, save S.H.I.E.L.D. from a Chronicom infestation and fix the ship; meanwhile, Daisy and Sousa are at a disadvantage against an unhinged & incredibly unsettling Nathaniel Malick...

This does hold the hallmarks (climatic confrontation, major character development, and cliffhanger) of a mid-season finale but it ultimately was not. The show kept airing as usual the next week. Not only was this such a Mack centric episode, it also aired on Henry Simmons’ 50th birthday.

Fucking Chronicoms destroying our hearts this episode. They know Mack's biggest weakness is his family (He already lost Hope from the framework) so this just took him out of the game. Sybil time stream is very similar to He who remains ability to see the timeline he wants and move things in place to make it happen tho she can only control her Chronicoms choices as humans are very unpredictable sometimes (which is why coulson actions to sacrifice himself surprised her as it was not logic based just emotional) Next episode is very much a 80s movie as you can already tell from the title. Great review john looking forward to next week.

I've been enjoying this whole ride (incl. Agent Carter) with you in the past month-and-a-half! It's going to be fun watching the final couple of episodes in real-time with you! Sousa is such a great addition to this season. 😃👍 The "bonus seasons" 6 and 7 are definitely a lot more fun on re-watch this time around. I think maybe because I didn't really have enough trust in the writers to stick the landing first time around, but the pressure is off on re-watch. 😅

Finally all caught up. Several items of note. First, interesting the way AOS had the threads of the time stream long before we saw them in Loki. Second, I appreciated how in every era they've shown the Swordfish bar and made sure to include a shot of era appropriate musical device. Old radio, records, 8 track, etc. Sousa was the perfect spark / cast addition we never knew we needed (so glad you saw Agent Carter). Glad you are noticing how many areas in the MCU that have been covered since Endgame actually still tie into AOS even though it came before all those extras. Finally, If you do a rewatch, I'd happy sub to just get some of those and see what you see on a second go around. I understand how unlikely and unscheduled that would have to be. I appreciate your genuine thoughtful reactions and I've missed being able to see them for a bit. Sorry they are about to come to an end. But a blaze of glory it will be.

Elizabeth Henstridge got engaged during the last episode and named, as is her wont, her engagement ring Diana. So in respect of this the producers similarly named her chip by the same name.

This wasn't a mid-season finale, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was intended to be at some point. This season started airing in the spring (nearly summer) of 2020, and it was the only thing MCU related to release that year because of shifting pandemic scheduling. This is because they shot Seasons 6 and 7 basically back-to-back, so the episodes were already loaded up and ready to go. So it is possible this episode was set up as a lead-in to a midseason break, if they were to have one. And like Christopher Simeon said, get ready to go 80's next week, complete with an homage to a movie mentioned by Yo-Yo a few seasons back! Honestly, the back half of this season contains so many things I'm excited for you to experience, but I'll just have to wait to mention those. :)

Man, what a brilliant show. And the conversation with fake parents was so disturbing and deeply invasive – "we harvested their skins", brr...
