First things first. John, where did you get this T-shirt? It looks awesome, I want one :D But back to the show. I'm so glad you referenced some of the points I and other people have been making in your discussion. It's good to know someone reads those ;) As I've mentioned previously, the last two episodes realign the status quo of the series with the ending of the first novel. That's why my opinion about this season is significantly better than it was after seeing the 6 episodes on an early press screener. I now kind of understand the purpose of all the changes. The point is, Ciri's story in Blood of Elves is quite simple. She arrives with Geralt in Kaer Morhen, there she trains and learns about monsters. She essentially goes through a "witcher school", short of receiving any hard mutagens. Witchers ask Triss for help, she brings some civility, magical knowledge and safe space for Ciri to address more intimate problems (again, she's much younger in the books). Finally, Geralt realizes he needs additional help and writes a letter to Yen (there's no presumption of death here, just long absence), addressing her as "Dear Friend" (hence the title of one of the episodes) and asking her to teach Ciri in Ellander (Nenneke's temple). She agrees, Ciri begins her studies, the end. So the series arrives in a very similar place, just long way round. The most interesting though is the reveal of Emhyr as Ciri's father. In the books we don't learn that fact up to the final novel. But because the games (which are set after the books events) don't treat that as a spoiler, Netflix writers must have realized it would be impossible to keep such a huge secret for a few years if it's already known by a big portion of the audience. The official story about Ciri's parents, believed by everyone in Cintra, including Ciri and Calanthe, is their ship sank during a storm. I think it was briefly mentioned in one of the previous episodes. What really happened... well, we'll have to find out :)
