Also, I think it’s interesting that the reason they broke up was because “long distance never works.” Just super weird to think about given that we’re living in a long distance society these days haha

I did not remember them taking a jab at Simon Baker. The Mentalist did have a similar premise as this show but Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) explicitly told his co-workers that he was not psychic and just used mental tricks to appear to be. Also Josh Braden (Scott Seaver), was actually one of the villains of The Mentalist season 3.

Always love the cracks at The Mentalist lol. Probably my favorite "Gus, don't be the..." and "this is my associate" in this episode.

I agree, it is a similar - but still unique in its own way - premise. Both are in the Sherlock Holmes vein like Monk, House, and to some extent Bones. Not that I don't love every one of 'em. :)
