I mean, I get the animosity towards Dean for not helping Cas out more but as someone who has spent a lot of time being homeless/working-minimum-wage-jobs-while-homeless/working-minimum-wage-jobs-to-avoid-being-homeless-again I feel that that also rings true as just another aspect of humanity. Unfortunately, a huge and very common aspect of humanity that TV hardly EVER recognizes. And yes, it always kinda feels like "well wouldn't it be just so easy for someone with the means, or with more than /I/ have to give me what I need" but in the end, that just doesn't always happen. Dean is living his life, wrapped up in his own struggles. Like everyone else. Cas is making due with what he has. Sometimes that's all you can do. And in that way, it also touches on that kind of duality, between the shame of like, everyone else looking down on you for being "just a gas-n-sip employee, nuking taquitos" to "hey, I was starving, sleeping on the streets a week ago without a pot to piss in and yeah, now I'm responsible for running this entire store, taking care of the cash and making sure the toilet (a luxury not everyone has) is clean, and I can be proud of that." It's hard to start from 0 and especially hard when the people closest to you still see those little accomplishments as worthless or pathetic. Just another human lesson, unfortunately.

Yea pretty much a set up episode but i am glad you caught the themes with Cas and crowley struggles with humanity. Get through these next two episodes then we get to the good stuff.

Sadly, this is the season where we lose Edlund from the team, but i do think Bobo did a really great job for his first episode in this one. Dean's tone deafness with Cas's struggle is a little rough. Whatever Cas's boss's name is, she was totally just a weird tool. However, seeing how Cas grew off camera just in this amount of time is really satisfying. Before they find even more time to leave Cas out of the season. Ugh! Crowley and Ephraim were super interesting this episode. I really like returning to the concept of angels being black and white, no understanding of sarcasm, so 'I want to die' just means that to Ephraim. Whereas, Cas has probably had a lot of difficult thoughts post Dean kicking him out. Thus, causing him to finally get the nuance to human vocabulary. I totally agree that I really want Crowley to overcome Abbadon and get his footing back under him.

This episode is a one that I love, but at the same time makes me a little angry when I watch it. I never understood why when Dean kicked Cas out of the bunker, he didn’t set him up with his own fake credit card, hotel, something. Cas is sleeping at the Gas and Sip and it just feels unnecessary. And then Dean pretty much belittles Cas’s pride in his job. Idk. On a surface level I like this one because I like any episode that centers Cas and Dean, but I have mixed feelings about how Dean handled everything.
