sweet time to binge watch the witcher season 1 before seaosn 2! are you guys going to watch the witcher the nightmare of the wolf before you watch season 2?

Jan Popieluch

I don't know what's happening. I've just tried to post the same comments 3 times and it immediately disappears... Are there some weird banned words or something? :D

Jan Popieluch

I'll try to post it in pieces... Here come the facts, for the last time this season ;) 1. "Something more" is such a beautiful short story, even though its events are relatively simple: Geralt fights some "zombies", Geralt gets hurt, Geralt hallucinates and is healed by his mother, Geralt meets Ciri. Throughout the story, there is a repeated theme about destiny being not enough by itself and needing "something more". It keeps popping up in conversations with Yurga (the guy he rescued and was rescued by) and in hallucinated flashabcks. And that theme concludes in the last paragraph of the story, when Geralt and Yurga finally reach Yurga's house, the wife tells him about the girl she adopted and Geralt sees Ciri: "‘It’s like they said! Geralt! It’s like they said! Am I your destiny? Say it! Am I your destiny?’ Yurga saw the Witcher’s eyes. And was very astonished. He heard his wife’s soft weeping, felt the trembling of her shoulders. He looked at the Witcher and waited, tensed, for his answer. He knew he would not understand it, but he waited for it. And heard it. ‘You’re more than that, Ciri. Much more.’"

2. In the story, the Law of Surprise is in fact invoked again. Yurga even explains that Geralt won't find what he's hoping for because his wife can't have children anymore. He then says he would be proud to send one of his sons to become a witcher. He really is one of the few good guys that we meet in the entire series.

3. I was so happy to see the creators decided to show Battle of Sodden. In the books it's never shown, only talked about. Geralt reaches Sodden some time after the battle and sees a monument honoring 14 mages who lost their lives in that battle, defending the Northern Kingdoms. But the show really did justice to the esteem and reverence with which the battle is always described.

4. The name "witcher" is a translation of Polish "wiedźmin", a made up word, but resembling what could be a somewhat unorthodoxly constructed masculine form of "wiedźma" (eng. witch). 5. There are some notions of "fire magic" in the episode. I'm not sure if the show changes the lore from the books or is just miscommunicating it, but the danger is not in casting fireballs but in drawing the energy from fire to perform magic. In the 2nd episode we learn that energy must be taken from somewhere (ie. flower). And sane mages don't draw their power from fire because it's unpredictable and can destroy you. 6. Watch "Nightmare of the Wolf". It will really help with season 2 :)

You guys should definitely try and watch the Nightmare of the Wolf animated movie before season 2. It is canon in the Netflix Witcher universe

I'm enjoying rewatching season 1 with you guys. I hope you guys continue with season 2 of the Witcher. The Witcher is becoming one of my favorite shows from Netflix.
