The Angels displacing people back in time has been established since the very first introduction of the angels in Blink.

Bruce Simmons

I'm surprised Greg doesn't remember the Angels send you back in time. That was the entire point of Blink.

I am really happened that you guys watched P.S. I understand this episode was more about the Doctor (and the audience) having to say goodbye to the two companions. I still think it could have been included in the episode. It gives the viewer an understanding of the consequences for the companions' families whenever somebody chooses to travel with the Doctor.

I love this episode so much. Very cinematic all the way through, and for me it has some ideas I really like. I know the Statue of Liberty stomping across New York is too goofy for some, but I think the sheer awesomeness of the visual makes up for it.

Mixed bag ep for me. I love the angel aspects of the story, and I love Amy’s farewell, and afterword to the doctor, but I don’t think the two elements really work in conjunction. I honestly would have just preferred if the angel story was a a straight film noir story, with the weeping angels. Perhaps without even Amy and Rory and just have it be the Doctor and River. But yeah I still generally like the episode, there’s just some issues I have.

I actually really enjoy this episode quite a lot! But I do COMPLETELY understand why you guys were mixed since its so early in the season.

Gibbzee

Not crying is surprisingly common in reactions for this episode, partly because it's unbelieveable (like you say, rory in paricular dies *a lot*), and partly because it happens so fast.

Gibbzee

The Angels in Blink originally sent people back and fed off their "potential life" - whereas in the S5 2-parter, they were incredibly weak, so they'd just straight up kill you.

Jan Popieluch

Oh man, I don't know how many times I've seen this one, but I still end up sobbing. And P.S. just breaks me. But yeah, the episode hits completely differently when the shock value is gone and you're left with the anguishing goodbye.

I was 14 when this aired and about half of my freshman class was obsessed with Doctor who (tiny school only 30 students in my year) we all came back to school WRECKED over this episode, I can imagine if I had seen this for the first time as an adult it would not have anywhere close to the same impact..

Something that may help yalls confusion regarding why such a big event happened during the 5th episode of the season. Back during season 6 and 7, the BBC tried experimenting with the release schedule of the show. These seasons were split up in two parts. One part of the season was released in Spring, while the other was released in Fall. So this episode was the finale of Season 7 Part 1. Side note, Season 6 Part 1's finale ended with River revealing she was Amy's daughter.

Daryl

A reasonable reaction guys. Because it plays on that constant peril and death that these companions have often been in. Combined with the to-ing and fro-ing on the idea of are they getting ready to leave the Doctor or not. When it does actually finally stick. For some, that process of acceptance is undoubtedly a strained principle. I think I had an odd reaction if I remember correctly. I think I had a strange juxtaposition of emotions. I was both very sad but also elated that it was actually finially permanent. 🤣 I've later just appreciated it as part of their arc.

The angel's ability to displace you in time was established back in their first episode. The whole plot of that episode revolved around the Dr getting sent back in time, and needing Carrie Mulligan's help to send his TARDIS to him

Amy and Rory aren’t even the most tragic of the Doctor’s lost companions. They’re definitely top 5 but the top spot is still held by Adric from the 5th Doctor. When the 5th Doctor died/regenerated, Adric was the very last word he said. Also his granddaughter Susan during the 1st Doctor. It’s still a sad and very emotional episode and when I first saw it, it reminded of all the losses that came before them, so in that it did it’s job. It’s an excellent episode. Also over the 50 years of the show, starting from original series and the 1st Doctor, plenty of companions have been lost or willingly stopped traveling with the Doctor mid-series. It kept things fresh.

The Angels actually always did displace you in time. If you remember in the season 3 episode 'Blink', you had a few characters sent back in time because of the angels

When this was airing, they had already announced their departure in the episode beforehand so viewers at the time knew it was coming. Also, as others have mentioned, the plot of Blink hinges on the angels sending people back in time (Kathy Nightingale, Billy Shipton).

Usually I don't like when this show announces when a companion is going to leave or when a doctor is going to regenerate, but this is one case where it works for me, they announced before season 7 started that they were leaving the show, so the episodes before this one hit a little harder knowing that this was going to be their last episode, also this season was split into 2 parts, this episode aired in september 2012, then you had the christmas special in december, then the 2nd part of season 7 didn't air until march 2013 so you had a bit of a break in between which made more sense at the time, but watching it as a whole season years later it does flow a bit weird.

Simply.Beyond

This is the part that a lot of ppl don’t realize. If ppl went into it knowing it’s a series 7 part 1 and 2, then they’d know this was meant to be impactful since there’s going to be a break in between.

Kalob Lowrance

Yeah. Its very confusing how the BBC released them, but I think the blame goes more with HBO Max ( where I assume they watch) since they don't break the seasons up like 7a and 7b. Just a full season 7.

Karen Gillans definitely gone, right after this she shaved her head for a role in some random Art house pic called Guardians of the Galaxy, you can probably find clips on youtube i dunno

Bruce Simmons

Since noone has mentioned it yet: Steven Moffat said to Chris Chibnall that he really wanted to include a scene in the episode where Brian finds out what happened to Amy and Rory, but he couldn't find a way to include it in the episode. Chibnall said "No problem, I'm gonna write an additional scene and we will include it in the DVD.". However, when it came to filming the scene, the actor for Brian was filming something else and wasn't available. That's why it is in storyboard form.
