And yes, Yennefer was supposed to be sent to Nilfgaard but she wiggled out of that. 2. Nice intuition, John! Yes, there was something snipped. This episode is a mix of two short stories. The Ciri part is loosely based on "The Sword of Destiny" short story (published in the collection with the same title). It tells the story of Ciri getting lost in the Brokilon forest and getting picked up by dryads. But it's set much earlier, when Ciri was just a small child. The Geralt & Yen part is based on "The Last Wish" short story (similarly, published in "The Last Wish" collection). In fact that is the first time Yennefer appears in the books, we don't know anything about her past at that point. The only hint, taken from the short story and massively built upon in the series, is this fragment: "But he suddenly knew the truth. He knew it. He knew what she used to be. What she remembered, what she couldn’t forget, what she lived with. Who she really was before she had become a sorceress. Her cold, penetrating, angry and wise eyes were those of a hunchback. He was horrified. No, not of the truth. He was horrified that she would read his thoughts, find out what he had guessed. That she would never forgive him for it. He deadened that thought within himself, killed it, threw it from his memory forever, without trace, feeling, as he did so, enormous relief".

My pleasure! It's always nice to share the brilliance of Sapkowski's writing ;)
