I really like this season, it has a much more exciting season storylines with the whole falling angels and some more to come, and I especially can't wait for your reaction to a surten episode coming up in a couple of months!

Loved your reaction guys as I love this season opener as well. Ezekiel is played by Canadian actor Tahmoh Penikett. He is known for playing Karl "Helo" Agathon on Battlestar Galactica.

I enjoyed this premiere as well and the interesting dynamic it sets up. You have Cas' turn from Angel to human paired with Sam's ascension from human to Angel via Zeke's possession. Dean choice is very selfish and it all ties into his sense of self and how it revolves around Sam. Sam's protector. his guardian his whole life. Is he really? Dean mentions his season 2 demon deal this episode and making that deal is what led to the first seal and the start of the apocalypse and lucifer release ultimately and if you remember dean is also the one who got Sam's soul out of hell causing all of Sam's mental issues in season 7 as well. Then he guilt tripped Sam when he left hunting and would not let go of past mistakes Sam has made. Then literally allowed demons to be on earth to kill people just so sam did not die. Dean is so wrapped up in Sam with him he could care less about the people he is supposed to be helping. He does not even care if sam is happy. All season 8 Sam showed that he did not want to be in the hunter life forever but dean ignores it. Hael the angel is a parallel to dean. She shows no sense of self without Cas similar to dean with Sam. She would rather drag cas along injured without consent then find her own way alone. While it not evil it is not good either.

He was also in Trick 'r Treat. And he also played in the short lived show by Joss Whedon called Dollhouse.

Yes I heard he was in Dollhouse, I didn't know that he was in Trick 'r Treat.

Interesting dynamic? You mean by this that you dislike Dean. Through Season 8, Sam persuades Dean to let him take on the trials by saying he will live, but is afraid that if Dean does so, he is just as likely to let it kill him. Then suddenly at the last minute, he revokes that and says "oh yes, happy to die". That was not what Dean wanted, and not what he had agreed with Sam. He wanted Sam living a happy life, not dying a miserable death.

Did Sam not want to STOP in 8x22 to save the people they cared about? Who told him to keep going despite Sam just seeing a woman he cared about murderered. Do you know why sam was "suddenly" ready to die. Because he rather die or leave hunting rather than continue watching people die because of him. That is how much it hurts him and who kept throwing that in his face all season? Saving the world in the process is even better outcome for him. I do not dislike dean. I hate his choices and fans who are blind to his flaws because he is their favorite. Dean does not want Sam to live a happy life really. He wants Sam to be happy hunting with him regardless of Sam's actual happiness. Killing and protecting sam is all dean knows how to do. Sam WAS happy but dean would not stop guilt tripping him until the job was done so he tried to get rid of demons forever so he could go back to that life. When sam realized that life was never going to happen(people he is close to keep dying) he just wanted to die rather than continue.

Love how even though this is a busy start with everyone scattered, I agree the balance with this episode is very strong. The best theme of this show is no matter how much life on earth might weigh us down, it is the most real, and caring for other people on earth together is the most important thing we can do. Always fight suicidal ideation. Jared does such a great job with playing Ezekiel. Dean's growth of never looking to anyone else, nearly, and never praying because it seems weak, to knowing he can at least lean on Cas is lovely to see. Seeing how you guys respond to some of the practical makeup/effects is really funny to me, just because I don't typically react that strongly anymore. I mostly just find it super impressive when I see great practical makeup/effects.
