A couple of episodes ago, Sam was threatening Dean that he may be that hunter that kills Benny. “You killed my friend so I’m gonna kill yours”. Then this episode he admits he had crazy Martin track Benny because “no hunter worth his salt” would let a vampire go. Sorry, but YOU did so twice Sam! Season 2 was Lenore and her hive, then in season 6 (before Cass stepped in) even after she admitted to killing a little girl. And that same old dead horse beating, but didn’t you just take a year off hunting, tossed the phones, etc….never mind looking for your brother or helping Kevin? But of all the monsters you’ve ignored – this vampire simply must be tracked?

This was a very thrilling episode! I love the existential crisis of Benny and how well the actor plays it.

now i agree that sam should not have left martin but i also believe once he thought amelia was in danger he stopped thinking clearly but what dean did was also not ok. sam girlfriend in season 1 was murdered because of him and dean used that fear which i think is a dick move regardless. they both got martin killed inadvertently and i do not think sam is surprised by that fact but more upset that dean used that trick to get what he wanted. they both know martin had it coming but if sam was not distracted by dean move that situation probably would not have happened. Think about it benny would have been long gone and if not sam would have kept martin in check. so both sam and dean are to blame.

Great episode! Benny is played by Ty Olsson and he is just brilliant. Do you see now why everybody loves Benny?

Agree that it was a dick move on Dean's side to make Sam believe she was in danger to get him away. But completely disagree on the rest. Sam should have never got Martin involved in the first place and especially after seeing how unhinged he was, should have never left him alone. I know he was worried about Amelia, but he is used to make decisions under extreme pressure, even emotional one.

Toasted Toad

Agree with Sara b. Definitely a dick move by Dean, but the responsibility for Martin’ death, to the extent that it is not Martin’s own fault, rests entirely with Sam. He should not have got Martin involved, he should have trusted Dean instead of Martin (echoes of Ruby, anyone?) and he should not have left Martin alone. This episode was non stop bad decision making by Sam. He and Dean really need to kiss and make up so they can get their heads on straight! Agree with you guys - great episode. Possibly the best vamp episode they’ve done so far, and definitely the best Benny episode. The previous one relied on too many characters we didn’t care about (and was also very linear). This one was much tighter. Actually, I thought there was a distinct possibility Benny would die the first time I watched this. I thought he might sacrifice himself for Elizabeth. And yes, it’s nice to hear Dean talking up Sam. We don’t normally hear anything like that because the brothers are working together, so Dean threatens on behalf of both of them. It’s a bit of a shame Sam couldn’t hear Dean speaking about him that way, though. He might appreciate it. And yey, no more flashbacks. Everyone’s up to date now.

I also thought Benny may sacrifice himself to save Elizabeth the first time I watched this episode. I also agree it was nice to watch Dean tell Benny that Sam is a badass who can kill him.

“Just a whole bundle of communication issues” Aww! They get season 8! Granted that’s a little bit of every season this far. But that’s pretty much season 8 in a nutshell

Diana

I agree, this is for sure one of my favorite episode's of the season. Overall, I think the actors portray their characters very accurately. My issues are more on the writing level with, of all the people Sam could have asked to watch Benny he really should not have asked Martin. Martin's death is completely on himself not listening to Dean, or Sam's, warnings. Sam for sure screwed up ditching him in the middle of nowhere. I really just cannot get behind the shallow, black and white, kill all monsters because all monsters are inherently bad energy coming from Martin and Sam. It is far too Season 1 of the show when we are apparently in season 8. I feel like this comment sounds really negative but I really love the tone and acting.

Toasted Toad

On the other hand, I believe that if Sam had asked any other Hunter, they would simply have killed Benny themselves and notified Sam about it afterwards

Amber Dustman

The actress who played Elizabeth was also back in the very first Lisa and Ben episode, the Changlings. She was the mother who tried to drown her kid in the car.

Christopher simeon

You think martin would just go with sam away from benny especially for a girl? Sam probably did not want to have to explain himself and waste time trying to convince him to leave the mission while amelia was in danger and while not knowing if benny is actually killing for sure.

Jason Usher

except Benny is a monster so Sam having someone watch him is a smart idea, also the only reason Sam left him alone was 100 percent because of DEAN, if Sam would have done that when Dean was away from Lisa, Dean would have probably punched if not beaten him to a pulp

Diana

I see where that could have been an option if it were a hunter we are unfamiliar with. However, if it were someone like Jody or Garth the communication channel probably would not have broken down. (Sam said at the beginning of the episode "recon/report only"). If one of them were in this episode they might have had time to actually make Desmond an actual character, instead of just a name to kill.

sarahzentexas

Yes! Such a well-written and paced episode, with a ton of conflict and that twist ending. Daniel Loflin’s best IMO.

Olivia Delguy

I feel like you guys aren't as invested in these reactions lately. :(

2021-11-30 21:22:13 Aw no! I’m sorry if it ever reads that way 😣 I can assure you that while some eps can be better than others, we still both really love covering this show & hearing all your guys’ feedback. I think mainly that past few weeks have been densely populated with events, some sleepless nights, and some general life stuff to deal with, so perhaps we just need a bit of a recharge 🔋 hope you can still enjoy watching with us moving forward!!
