I really like this episode. Yey, Cas is back! And we learn that Not only has Dean been suffering PTSD but also an unnecessary guilt trip about Cas. I really like how much understanding Cas has gained. When Dean angrily says it wasn’t his fault that Cas got left behind in Purgatory, Cas instantly realises Dean thought it *was* his fault. Season 4 Cas would never have seen that. Always great to see Mrs Tran too, although I found it annoying that she didn’t seem to hold herself accountable at all for her son getting captured. Funnily enough, I never had a problem with Mrs Tran overpowering the demon henchman. He was huge and she was tiny. Seems only reasonable he would totally underestimate her. As for Crowley not killing her himself, well we wouldn’t have a million James Bond films if our villains did the smart thing, would we? Last time, Kevin saw Crowley kill his girlfriend. So it doesn’t seem unreasonable for him to think his mum is now gone too. I love the new Angel sfx. So much better than the original ones. That Crowley/Cas confrontation is epic. “Okay, so you can get it up, but can you keep it up?” 😂😂😂. Love (and hate) Crowley! So we’re all caught up on Purgatory now and we’ve got new plot starting. Just Sam’s yawn fest to catch up on!

This ep is one of my go-to ones when I crave Destiel moments. (Yes, I'm a shipper and unashamed.) Particularly I love the moment when Cas comes out of the bathroom all shiny and new again, and Dean's reaction to it. If the camera work seems familiar then I know you watched 'She's All That". Definitely agree with Toad about Crowley's "keeping it up" line. Classic.

When I started the show I tried SO hard to maintain a hetero-normative lens on the show, but had to give up on it with season 8 (this episode specifically). The subtext just really just became too obvious to me. Hearing Greg and Jon's slight confusion in this episode is interesting.

This is a really fun episode for me. It's always great to get Cas back into the story. One of the most hated villains in the series introduced in this episode (Naomi). I also wonder sometimes the extent of her control. It isn't really very clear. Crowley is also so great this season, but that is nothing new.

Dean didn't want to remember Cas staying behind voluntarily. He would rather think that he failed Cas then remember Cas choosing to leave him. He doesn't think he is worth people staying for, and Cas leaving him and staying behind proves that to himself.

I went in not expecting to ship it at all, but it really flipped for me this season (and then all the seasons after 8 really just honed it in), it just got to the point where it wasn't just about Destiel anymore, but I also starting noticing the subtext on Dean's sexuality. Then when you go back and re-watch the show, the bisexual coding on Dean is there even before season 4.
