The blame/hypocrisy/jealousy are to blame on bad writing mostly - I think both actors agree if memory serves. I don't see either of them treating each other this horribly so by this episode I was ready for them to break up because they are just trying to hurt each other instead of save people. So Sam should go back to Kermit and the mean lady "love" that he left behind after he kills Dean's purgatory buddy since he seems overly excited about himself being the hunter to take him out (screw growth)...and Dean can work with Garth since being the new Bobby are big shoes to fill. Thanks writers for ruining the main reason this show worked (bros relationship) by undermining Sam's character morally and amping Dean's anger due to 'secrets'.

Aw, I love that penny montage! It’s like a quick recap of the episode through the eyes of the killer. Couldn’t love Garth more ❤️❤️. Sam doesn’t seem to have taken on board that the only monsters Dean has been prepared to let go are ones who haven’t killed and have shown the intention not to kill - the vamps back in season 2, the weregirl, Benny. Sam’s girl monster back in season 7 had been on a killing spree. Agree with what you’re saying about Sam and Amelia. No chemistry. That’s always something that’s a bit luck of the draw. You can’t always tell in advance whether actors are going to have on screen chemistry. We’re not going to have flashbacks throughout the season. Those two stories will catch up to present date. Like the shirt, John, but i have a very important question: I have been watching your backlog of MHA reactions, and noticed that although on your SPN reactions, Greg is always to our left and John to our right, in your MHA reactions you switch positions a lot. Why is this?

This episode is where my *Dean bias shows because I agree with all his points and Sam's counter with Ben y is weak sauce (when he's really just being petty about Amy, who was killing humans). *See, Dean bias.* I can't see Sam's perspective at all, even the year off makes no sense to me. And I agree there is no chemistry with the Amelia actress, in my rewatches I usually fast-forward through all of those scenes.

I like this episode for many of the same reasons you do. The issues I have are because of that scene where Spectre Dean was blaming Sam for things he had no control over (ie...you didn't tell me you lost your soul) and those things are just allowed to hang there and not really get addressed. It could very well be that the spectre causes some kind of irrationality to manifest itself, but we never learn that. We are just told that they avenge betrayals, and all of them were real ones for the other people who were possessed. As far as Amelia and the flashbacks...what fascinates me is that for both her and Sam, this is kind of a rebound relationship (for lack of a better word) forged through trauma. In the real world, when those happen they are often short lived because of the lack of true chemistry. Especially because you do start to heal after some time, and that need for the other person subsides. It applies to Benny, too. After my brother and I lost our sister, he found himself in the same situation with someone who also knew her. Unfortunately, it ended badly. However, I processed it for a year before becoming involved with anyone and we just had our 18 year anniversary together. So I get what they're trying to convey and also why there's a lack of real chemistry. But it's tough to read without having that experience yourself or a good understanding of the psychological reasons people do this. I have to assume the casting director chose that actress for a reason, and for as long as the show had already been on, making that choice to pair her with one of the show's two leads came from somewhere. So it wasn't chemistry...it was the ability to play a certain emotional arc. It works sometimes, but not so much for others. That's my take, anyway. Either way, the more I watch this episode, the more I like it. The good is really good. The rest is not half as bad as some other episodes. LMAO. And Sam is really jealous of Benny more than anything.

I’ve been watching SPN with you guys for literal years now! No way I’d loose interest in your reactions just because the show ended! You also have to think, I’ve watched this show at least once a week for like 8 years. Either new episodes, rewatching old ones, watching reactions, or conventions and panels. Y’all are helping fill the void of knowing there will be no more new episodes. You should also know you guys are the reason I look forward to Saturdays! Just to watch your Supernatural reactions.

No one’s really attached to Amy, lol. She’s pretty much just a plot point however. Garth, however, I would murder for!! Also just DJ Qualls. He has a major role in Z Nation (by far the best zombie show) playing basically the same character and I just love him from that.

Yeah, Sam's grudge against Benny does feel WILDLY hypocritical to me. Sam argued for Amy "good monster" not being killed, now Dean is arguing for Benny "good monster" not to be killed. Sam should be supportive of Dean's character development with that. I will admit Benny is Dean's newest friend, but that sentence is pretty true that the people Dean trust don't always watch his back the way he watches theirs. Garth is fantastic as always! When I first saw this episode I was thrown off by him acting like Bobby in a similar way to Dean, but I loved the reasoning for it. Him standing up for himself to Dean in that one scene was great. I love that fake out with the inhaler to the penny. The montage of the journey it travels is really fun, with a cool song over it. Don't worry about us losing interest in your reactions to the show. It is really cool and comforting to hear how other people respond to something you are really into. I got into the show early 2016 when I was a sophomore in college and was really unsure of my future. This shows mentality of, take things a day at a time, was something I really needed in my life. When media helps you through life it never really leaves you, and it is super comforting when our opinions of the show overlap.

The only item that Dean accuses Sam of that is unjustified is not telling him that he had lost his soul. Sam didn't know himself - although there was clearly something wrong with him (it is not normal for a person not to sleep). The rest was fair. But TBH I think Dean has forgiven Sam for most of it - it was just the spectre. The only thing that I think was still simmering strongly was that Sam didn't look for him at all, which left him with a deep sense of personal betrayal. He was abandoned. (TBH I think that's an issue with the writing - I think they should at least have had Sam looking for some period before he drove off aimlessly and hit a dog - that's more true to character for Sam). I doubt the use of an actress with no on screen chemistry with Jared was intentional. It was just one of those things - SPN has generally done very well with its casting of side-characters, but some things are tricker than others and sometimes you get unlucky.

I agree with most of your first paragraph. It's not that big of a deal, but just sounds like writing mistakes that no one really caught. The problem with the casting I have is that if they were looking for fiery chemistry, they would have hired someone who sizzled a little more. To make the assumption that it's just by accident (to me - and I could be wrong, of course) means that not only do they not care about the flagship show for a network, but they also don't know what they're doing when they cast people to play alongside a lead, you know...? It makes zero sense, at least to me, that kind of a mistake could be made, because it's way different than a few lines of dialog or minor canon retcons. That's something within their control - so my way of thinking has to expand a bit to question why they would do that. Amelia was just comfort in a time of grief...a distraction. Almost as if we're not supposed to like her. Sam and Amelia weren't really in love with each other. They were attached to each other and it grew into a kind of love...but not the kind we typically associate with being in love with someone. And honestly, let's be real - the show makes it clear where the real chemistry is.

Great reaction, one thing though yes Benny saved Dean from purgatory but Amy saved Sam as a kid so the whole but Benny saved Dean thing doesn’t work because Dean killed Amy after he found out that she saved Sam as a kid, also Garth rules, I also have a proble with Dean non stop saying you left me in purgatory because literally a few episodes before he went to purgatory they were struggling to find any intel at all about purgatory so even if he did look for him(he should have tried at least) he most likely wouldn’t have been able to find anything to help
