Just jumped to your comments because I wasn’t interested in a watch along. Yes, this episode pretty much sucks. It’s really poorly written, and Sam’s story just isn’t compelling. I think there wasn’t all that much Jensen could do when handed a turkey of a script like that.

Tazarati

Agreed, a dull one, but there is better to come...

I haven't watched this episode since it aired. For some reason I was thinking it was a good episode, and was excited for yall to watch it. I didnt realize at the time how much boring and expository dialouge was in this episode. Definitely not what I remembered. I do know next weeks episode is a dumpster fire, so I am excited to see yalls take on it

Diana

I generally tend to have a positive attitude towards all of the episodes of the show, but I do have to agree this is definitely an episode I only watch if I really want to do a proper binge. It wasn't a bad concept for an episode but for sure not a quality execution. I have been seeing a couple comments about the next one being terrible, but honestly don't agree. I find it very interesting.

Laura Moore

Wow. Didn’t even remember this episode except it being about the transplants...I wish I could tell you the next episode will be better but...basically by episode 8 it really picks up and we’re good to go strong for the next 3 seasons

This season was one where it was just weirdly soap-opera-y in a way that SPN had never been, even with its most ridiculously convoluted and extra storylines - like, so many flashbacks!? SO many. They were trying to dig the show out of the hole that Sera Gamble and Bob Singer dug it into over seasons 6 and 7 and wow, does it ever show. Also yeah, that's Jensen's daddy, Alan - he plays the sheriff they talk to in the opening credits. And Jensen directed this episode, too! ^.^ It's just a shame it had to be a Buckleming episode. They're the worst writers on the show. :(

The only part of this ep that I really like is the moment Dean realizes he's at a farmer's market. Definitely like the idea you had about maybe if they started with the athletes death and cutting to a year later as a way to grab the attention of the audience and show the backstory without the perpetual info dump.

Cricket mallet always makes me laugh, like couldn't the writers do a quick search and find out their called bats

Such bad makeup! And this is a Buckleming episode (worst writing team BUT half of it is Bob Singer’s wife, so…) Jensen got stuck with their scripts for a long time, since he tended to direct the third episode aired, and they somehow always ended up writing it. Maybe that’s why he skipped it in seasons 9-10. Anyway, terrible episode.

Decent story idea, really poor execution. There's just way too much exposition here and not near enough action. Poor Jensen got stuck directing a crappy script.

I Agree... for me the it's poorly written. poor jensen. Also I don't really interested/invested in Sam Amelia story . They write amelia in really strange unlikable way. I really wish if they want to make Sam choosing normal life for a year, they really commit make appealing happy love story and likeable lover. They could make amelia fun and kinda nerd (because many woman in this story i feel they are tend to be strong, sexy, beautiful, etc) or could be anything else anything else beside an unbelievable vet's personality. The flashback could be about how they met and their dates, and how happy sam is.

Tyler

i love the contrast between sams memories from the last year and deans, when dean has a flashback it’s dark, colder, more ominous and sams are more bright and warm and loving. it’s a good way of showing how these 2 have changed from the last season due to the things they did in between

Jennifer

I totally agree with you re: Amelia's weirdly unlikable personality (I mean, the thing with forcing Sam to adopt the dog without knowing anything about him.) It's not because I'm against Sam (or Dean or Castiel) having a (female) love interest, just give him one as nice as he is, please.
