This episode actually won a Humane Genesis Society Award for incredibly accurate depiction of animal abuse in Circuses, which sadly is a very real thing that happens to poor creatures. Super well done job on the writers' part for this wonderfully made episode.

A few episode connections for this one. The circus in this episode is the one Ty Lee used to work at. Appa also encountered the same vulture-wasps that Team Avatar found in the desert. The wildcats saw Appa coming into Ba Sing Se and showed Momo where he was. Guru Pathik mentions that he has been waiting for the Avatar. Pathik is actually 150 years old and survived the genocide of the Air Nation, although he is not an airbender. Also, Aang and Appa are connected the same way Roku and his dragon Fang were. Avatars are allowed to have animals guides that join them in the afterlife.
