Nothing but wonderful performances by all in one of my all time favorite Donna Noble episodes. Catherine Tate just kicks ass, as does Bille Piper, and as does Bernard Cribbins, freaking all of them! And with a wonderful cliffhanger ending as well: DONNA: Don't be so daft. I'm nothing special. DOCTOR: Yes, you are. You're brilliant. ROSE [from before): He thought you were brilliant. DONNA: She said that. DOCTOR: Who did? DONNA: That woman. I can't remember. DOCTOR: Well, she never existed now. DONNA: No, but she said the stars. She said the stars are going out. DOCTOR: Yeah, but that world's gone. DONNA: No, but she said it was all worlds. Every world. She said the darkness is coming even here. DOCTOR: Who was she? DONNA: I don't know. DOCTOR: What did she look like? DONNA: She was blonde. DOCTOR: What was her name? DONNA: I don't know. DOCTOR: Donna, what was her name? DONNA: But she told me to warn you. She said two words. DOCTOR: What two words? What were they? What did she say? DONNA: Bad Wolf … but what does it mean? DOCTOR: The end of the world!

I honestly think of this episode as part 1 of a 3 parter. It will make more sense later. Epic finale incoming!!!

I think this one confused me a lot on first watch too, but I like it a lot now. Though I find those scenes with the families squashed into tenements, and then forced into "labour camps" pretty difficult to watch. 😕 Those names mentioned on the news report with Sarah Jane weren't from the School Reunion episode, they're characters from her spin-off show. And I think Rose also mentioned a couple of the characters from Torchwood when she talked about them giving their lives to stop the Sontarans. I really like Rose here - like you guys said, she seems more mature, and the years doing this job in her world have made her very confident and competent, and I am extremely here for it! I do love this episode for Donna - seeing who she is without the experiences we've watched her go through, versus who she has the potential to be when given the chance...Catherine Tate plays both SO WELL.

I'm actually from Leeds, from a street that looks like the one in the show. It makes me laugh every time I watch this episode

So my interpretation of the Rose stuff is: The stars start to go out in Rose's parallel universe > she finds UNIT to try and track down the Doctor's universe to warn him (she and UNIT build a "dimension cannon" so she can zap herself into parallel universes a few weeks before the stars start to go out) > She can never get through to The Doctor until one day she's pulled into this new parallel universe where The Doctor just died > She keeps Donna alive so that she can relay a message to The Doctor > Rose sends Donna too far out of her destination knowing she'd have to do something drastic to stop herself turning right, so Donna goes to her death allowing herself to relay the message to The Doctor > Back when Rose was Bad Wolf and she could see all of time and space, she presumably started scattering "Bad Wolf" here in The Doctor's timeline to warn him, similar to how she scattered the words in S1.

If I recall, Billie Piper did indeed have dental surgery as she was starting to look for work or start work in the US.

Oh, and remember in Doomsday when Rose said there's still a Torchwood on this planet and she reckons she knows a thing or two about aliens? I'm pretty sure she's been fighting aliens ever since which is why she seems so wise and calm about this stuff.

This, I also believe there’s a line or two in either next episode or the finale about it which gives a bit more explanation 👍

They were talking over that line so completely missed “labour camps, that’s what they called them last time, it’s happening again” thus they missed the meaning of the scene unfortunately

yup. if theyre confused i think theyd benefit watching it again on their own time if they want!

This has to be one of my favourites cos it is so bleak as it basically just says that life without the Doctor is meaningless and depressing, even suggesting that a second Holocaust would happen.
