2023-06-14 21:36:40 Jody Mills --> Let's have a woman show up in Bobby's life so she can offer to cook and clean for him. Uhm....?? 🙄 Seriously, the first thing she does is MAKE HIM A SANDWICH. And then when she leaves, Bobby asks her to take the trash out on her way (the Leviathan head). Plus, Bobby planting that kiss on her after the Borax reveal is just so out of character imo, and frankly, kinda out of line too.

Yup, you get it.

This writer writes some of my favorite episodes, this director directs some of the best episodes, but things just didn't add up correctly. It stays weird for a few eps before it gets better again.

I like Frank

This is the best analysis of season 7 I may have ever heard and you are only 6 episodes in. Don't lose faith because there are some gems in this season and It definitely gets better. It's not bad, it's just......off.....great line. They were going through some ratings problems and couldn't figure out what they wanted to do with the show at this point. But one of my all time favorite episodes is coming up in this season so there's that.

Oh no, you liked last week’s episode by the writing pair “Buckleming” and then crap on this one written by beloved Robbie Thompson? 🤦🏻‍♀️. I’m just teasing. 😜 He is also a new writer on the show but after some misfires with his early scripts, he delivers a steady supply of solid episodes and a good number of fan favorites. I do kinda agree with 90% of your critique. It’s just that those things don’t bother me because I am not watching this episode for scary Leviathan thrills or reasonable plot. Cannot remember what I thought about it when it came out 9 years ago. Now I’m watching it just for fun entertainment. I enjoy seeing the doppelgängers do bad things all while being a comedy duo for us. I love watching Dean sing Air Supply. And as you mention that scene is ripe for YouTube, here is the clip which also includes an over the top outtake where Jensen just sings it as goofy as possible rather than trying to hide Dean’s love for the song. https://youtu.be/oaZhMNh0EcU For sure the ending scene could have been longer with an argument while driving, leading to a dramatic “Stop the car!” moment before they part ways. And yes, it is annoying that the last time we saw Sheriff Jody, she was incapacitated in the hospital...basically a damsel in distress. Then she shows up here, not in anyway helping with police work or hunting. Nope, she is cooking dinner and cleaning house. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So yes, at this point the show is still pretty misogynistic even with a female showrunner. *sigh*

Almost forgot...the part where they made Dean seem stupid? Yeah be prepared to see that on occasion for the rest of the show. Some writers treat him as smart while others will make him an idiot if they feel the need to throw in a joke for levity. Though for the jail cell phone call scene, I think Greg is right that it may have been how they chose to play that scene, since it wasn’t that a joke fell flat.

Michele

I actually kind of like this one. The previous one was fun, but I don't like the writing team much, but I think the acting and directing helped save it. This one was actually written and directed by people who usually have good episodes. I think the director put his flare for light hearted implementation of stuff on this one and maybe it went too far? Don't know, because I actually liked that part of it. Seeing Jody and Bobby in scenes together again was nice. Finding that they found something that actually might work against the Leviathans was satisfying, since I hate those things. You do have really good points though. And I actually don't like it when they dumb down Dean. That does piss me off, because we know he's not stupid. The Leviathan stuff was still crappy though. I don't care for those things. They apparently think they're too powerful to care about anything, so they are acting campy. But that's not working. But, the had guy, Dick Roman, seemed to be an improvement. Maybe the Sam and Dean stuff and how they acted was weak though. The crazy tech guy was funny. And we see Crowley again. Finally.

So at this point I had already become acclimated to the idea that very little in this season is taken truly seriously, and that made this episode a lot better for me because of the character moments still being good. Dick Roman's energy makes the rest of the season a heck of a lot better too. I actually didn't really care for Sam and Dean as much this episode, and felt the doppelgangers were more authentically fun. Also, upon revisits, that is probably the most cheesy, cliche "break up" scenes we have ever seen from the boys.

Lostmyshoe22

I completely agree with you. They were 90% spot on but I also like the air supply scene as well as the diner scene.

Toasted Toad

Essential viewing. It's not a spoiler because it only contains the one scene already in this episode and it's not in the gag reel. You can react to it if you like or just watch in your own time (it's only a couple of minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaZhMNh0EcU&ab_channel=Saman22

Yeah not a great episode. Like Frank, love the scene in the car with Dean singing about losing his Baby, and love the convo between Dick and Crowley. Other than that, a lot of wonky stuff. This is another "fill in yourselves" type thing too, but Jodi did know Rufus. And they're staying at Rufus' cabin. I think her saying "I'm a cop" was supposed to be a fast way to convey that, but yeah that's not a dot most people would connect unless you're like obsessed with the show like a lot of us were/are lol but if Levi's have access to Sam and Dean's memories, then they could potentially have searched up information on Rufus as well. I guess we're left to assume they just didn't think about that. Just went after the boys and Bobby. Hell I think Cas never even met Rufus, so only the ones that have Sam and Dean's memories would even know of him. So it KINDA checks out...but yeah a bit of mental gymnastics to get there LOL

Steve Rivera

As for Leviathan's and their failure in exceution, I think the main thing that disappointed me about them was that they just became people and a corporate threat with DIck. When Death first mentions Leviathans, it gave me chills. It was such a good build up for them, and what came to mind were Lovecraftian monsters. But we ended up with glorified Shapeshifters. And then they make a lot of them a bit silly. Just...more of the same? Monsters that look like people. Plenty of those i Monster of the Week episodes, but this time they're the big bad. It just didn't work for me, but Roman, or "Dick", does do a good job. I like him a lot but that underlying issue with Levi's as a whole does apply to him as well. I can be more specific once you see more of him, but I do enjoy his performance.

2021-07-15 04:24:11 Not going to lie, I didn't like season 6 or 7 the first time around. But on rewatch season 6 obviously improves drastically, but with this season, I just learned to roll with the punches. It's frequently cheesy, and cringey, etc, but I just chill, turn my brain off and just enjoy the episodes, regardless of their obvious issues. Sadly, I can't say anything, but it gets better, I promise. There are great episodes coming up, but not only that but seasons 10 and 11 are my favorite out of the whole series. Anyway, I do ALWAYS love your breakdowns, but I think you're going to need to come at season 7 from a different perspective. Your reactions were hilarious though :p Regardless, love you guys <3 you're always the best part of my week.
