If you had watch Torchwood it would connected right to this episode.

Super excited for this! Btw, I think the reason Martha doesn't just grab the watch is because she doesn't know he's evil at the time. Of course, she'd be surprised to see the watch but he hadn't given her any reason to think he was a bad person at the time. Us, as the viewers, had a lot of audio cues to start to suspect him but Martha doesn't. Like John said, she might have just wanted to get the Doctor's opinion before she did anything

Daryl

Also at the time she perhaps might have thought that he could of been another regeneration of The Doctor. Thus was unsure what would happen if The Doctor touched the watch.

Why didn't Martha grab the watch? Because it's not hers. It's not her instinct to rob someone. And you're new to Who, but every fan of Classic Who knows the Master.

2021-07-15 04:31:52 Much love and respect to Sir Derek Jacobi who played Professor Yana in this episode. A veteran actor of stage and screen, Sir Derek appeared in dozens of films such as “Day of the Jackal”, “Gladiator”, “The King's Speech”, and my all time favorite, “Underworld: Evolution” (okay, the last one is a guilty pleasure) and has performed on stage in plays like “Hamlet”, “The Tempest”, “Macbeth”, and he won a Tony Award for “Much Ado About Nothin”. In other words this guy’s a heavy hitter and I’d welcome him back to Doctor Who anytime. He can even start his own spin-off series, “Future Kind & Friends”. Okay, I need a break. Good reaction as always guys.

Yeah I’ve rewatched this three parter a stupid amount of times, I’ve never had the thought about knicking the watch from Yana 😂

Also to clarify yes, Torchwood explains these things very early on but it also explains it here so that if you hadn’t been watching Torchwood aswell then you would still know what the deal with Jack is. That’s why we were encouraging you to watch the two side by side as the ending of season one torchwood and the beginning of this episode link immediately and also you would already know the deal with Jack prior to what’s revealed during the rocket pump scene. And yeah The Futurekind hold a special place for me as me and my friends back in primary school used to play a game where you had one or two humans that had to hide and if they were found by the group of futurekind the futurekind would have to shout human and then the human would have to make it to a designated safe area without being caught by a futurekind.

Don’t know whether you know already but Big Finish has been releasing audiobooks with Derek Jacobi’s War Master, they are worth a visit and Jacobi really shines especially as he is able to be more villainous throughout.

yeah that's a good call. The audio & such did make us go "THIS IS NOT GOOOOOOOOOD!!!!"

thereelrejects

Lol we didn't say she should rob him or yank it away from him and run lol. Watch it back. If memory serves me correctly, we were discussing how with Martha's reaction to learning about it, that she could make something up about wanting to look at it or hold it and take to the doctor for examination - especially with the Professor's expressed attitude towards the watch where he wasn't registering the severity of what was in his hand verses Martha clearly knowing the potential gravity. Like, we LOVED the episode, however, I don't want people thinking we said she should rob him or knick it away. That's very different than what we were suggesting lol

Toasted Toad

I rather like getting the reveal here, though. The way it's done is great. I seem to remember that I hadn't watched Torchwood at this point.
