Gotta say I love Baines as a villain. The shift from being a dickish student to this insane alien on the hunt for a time lord to prolong his life is so well realised. The sheer over the top nature of his performance really brings that other worldly quality that I love so much, and what honesty makes him such a memorable villain. To be fair you two haven’t seen the second part, in which I also think he’s amazing, but yeah I just love the performance.

Late, obviously, so I doubt you'll read this. But, I mean, plenty of people are more than willing to put themselves through extreme pain for love. That's how I see it. It's extremely painful for Martha, but she loves the Doctor so much that she puts herself through that anyway just to be with him. I really don't think there's anything unrealistic about that.
