When Dean said, "Hello, Newman." to Christian, it was a reference to Seinfeld. Newman, their mailman-neighbor was Jerry's nemesis. Dean was basically calling Christian out as his enemy. I love the Alpha vamp. His line "When your kind first huddled around the fire, I was the thing in the dark" is one of my favorite monster lines ever. As always, love you guys. Sorry uploading was a problem for you!

SOULLESS SAM!!! 🤸‍♀️ Edit: I love this episode, too, for all the reasons you mentioned. Sam didn’t know about what his grandfather and cousins were doing. He didn’t know they were in a thing with Crowley. But he knew they were capturing alphas and NOT killing them. He believed Samuel. I’m glad Sam and Dean find out at the same time. It’s just a little better when they’re on the same page.

Rick Worthy plays the Alpha Vamp! I can always recognize him in other roles by his voice alone. Great casting!

Don’t think anyone answered but Sam’s soul is still in the cage, not purgatory

1. whats up w the campbell compound place? does NOBODY turn the lights on?? im sure its done for ~ambience~ but i think its funny theyre all prepping for a hunt in the dark, not even any lanterns lol  2. dean: oh youre torturing these monsters? youre cool with torture now??  dean the second he meets the alpha vampire: *flips the switch on the electricity and starts trying to torture answers out of him* 3. i think soulless sam is so so interesting, theres some interesting discourse wrt him in the fandom. i agree that i dont think hes completely emotionless-- when he was tied up he was annoyed, we've seen him be frustrated, we've seen him tease dean. and he has wants, he recognizes that something is wrong with him and hes like "ok, its probably best if i get my soul back, dean thinks so too and its also probably best if i hunt with dean." dean is the person that sam knows best, and also dean always stressed the importance of family, which i think is why he found the other campbells. but since sams a bit of a robot hes like "family=relatives=find relatives to hunt with regardless of trustworthiness" (thats my opinion anyway lol.) i think hes acting like more of a psychopath, someone with no empathy for others and no conscience. 4. one last quick note on j2's chemistry-- i think theres absolutely no way the show would have gone on for so long or have such a dedicated fanbase if not for the casting of jared and jensen. the show isnt abt monster hunting its abt THEM, as brothers, and if even one had a different actor i dont think it would have lasted 15 years yknow? 5. "of course. youre problems always come first." love a sassy cas!! and rly, is he wrong to be a big annoyed by dean when castiel has a celestial civil war to focus on right now? lol glad u guys continue to enjoy s6!!

Glad you're really enjoying this season - and our comments about "it's better once you understand what's going on" are starting to make sense now (and that is going to continue BTW)! Of course, it's a risky way to play it if you're making a programme because you can lose your audience early on if they don't trust you. I love Soulless!Sam, and I agree, I think Jared plays him spot on. There's just been this level of creepiness to him that Dean spotted almost immediately and the Campbells, despite being with him for a year, did not. And Sam claims he's been a better hunter than ever the last year, and Bobby agreed (in that truth telling episode) he's currently a better hunter than Dean, but here we see that he's not. Dean was the one who figured out something was wrong - not just with Sam, but with the Campbells. Sam didn't question anything. Without a soul, he has no instincts, which is a very interesting direction for the writing to take. And the supernatural whammies do seem to keep happening to Sam, but Dean is the one who made friends with an angel! Crowley is a joy as ever, but Cas has been very much taken for granted by Dean this season. I mean, there probably isn't really anything Dean can do to help him, but he's not making much of an effort to appear sympathetic to his problems. He's just hyper-focussed on Sam. Having said that, I think that if Cas came to him for help, Dean would do everything he could for him. Like with Bobby - he only had to ask.

Michele

Exactly. Dean would help if asked, but he does have a lot on his plate and he figures that Cas is an angel, so is better able to handle the angel business than he and Sam are anyway. I don't see it as taking Cas for granted, but I know it can seem that way. Dean has a world to save and isn't going to be mincing around in getting help to do it. If people don't like it they only have to stand up to Dean and get in his face a bit. Then he'll take note. Otherwise he isn't going to really listen much.

So glad you're liking this season so far. It's always a challenge making the transition to a new team. They may have different ideas that they can no finally delve into. I wasn't liking it much when I first saw this season. It has gotten better on re-watches for sure. It does take me longer to adjust to changes though, in a show like Supernatural. This episode was really good and the sort of thing I needed to feel like SPN was still being the show I fell in love with. I also thought the Alpha vampire was freakin' awesome. But I did want My Boys back, and Sam still wasn't acting right. But now we know why. Eek! I was pretty worried about this and what it meant for the show from here on. The brother dynamic will be totally changed now. I knew I'd be mourning that. The Sam and Dean dynamics are always really good, but now, with Souless Sam, we're getting to see something totally different. It's helping to highlight certain thigs we may bot have really noticed before. Jared's doing an amazing job. Jensen has said that he actually didn't like it very much, because Sam wasn't really Sam and so things were different - so I think Jensen was able to draw on that discomfort in playing Dean during all of this.
